  • I was born in 81, but I remember watching GL with my mother in the mid 80's. I kept on watching it up until around 97 or 98 during school breaks and summer.

  • Great quality....this may be Jan of 1996 because this is temp Brent with lucy

  • Ugh. Lucy Cooper - hated that character, and hated Dr. Eve.

  • This intro got me watching GL in the 90's. Until "San Cristobel" chased me away...

  • Do you have an GL 1996 episode

  • Love this opening and the picture looks so better. Good job. =) But I do miss the show. It's been almost 2 years since Guiding Light went off the air.

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting.

This is a very high-quality recording. Do you plan to post any of the ATWT episode that preceded it?

  • @0814btm - I have to refind it first.

  • @kwvtads Ah, I know how hard that can be. I have hundreds of tapes myself. I'm still trying to find material that I first came across in 2003.

Good luck with the search. :)

  • And either way, this was not a wonderful era for the show.

  • This would have been from one of the episodes in June of 1996, because Tangie Hill had just left, but Reva wasn't yet known to be alive. And Peter Simon's Ed is still in the opening, he'd be leaving shortly after that month. This was also obviously near the time that it was thought, wrongly, that Brent Lawrence had left Springfield or killed by Alan-Michael and yet to show up as Marion Crane.

  • @sneezyize The stuff with Tangie and Reva was mid-1995. Ed left in summer 1996.

  • @CarlD2 Yes, I meant summer of 1995, not 1996. I thought Ed left earlier than 1996, but you are right. But Ed started becoming less the focal point of the show after this opening (which was a shame; if Mo had been kept alive that wouldn't have happened.)

  • @sneezyize And that would have been correct to have been summer 1995, most likely June of that year, because both Gilly and Nick are still in the opening.

  • @sneezyize I think JFP did a fair amount to keep Ed as a central character, through his relationships with Holly and then Eve...although I really loved Maureen and I think killing her off was a death blow to the show.

Supposedly Peter Simon refused a romance w/Nola after her return, so that may have affected his airtime. I don't know.
