can someone explain to me the hidden message of this scene? there must be something to it. you see, the problem with parables and such is that for someone who is rather simple minded like me can easily miss the message... so.. a tall table for a rich man? There were no such tables, in fact, they reclined on the floor, typcially leaning on one arm as they ate with their feet out behind them. The tables, or mats, were very close to the ground if not touching it.

This is exactly why Mary is portrayed to be so astounded by the tall table... it makes no sense, and clearly only a 'rich man' would have such a device.
