One thing I never did understand, this song is on their Lost Dogs Album, which was full of their songs they didn't feel were good enough to be on their other albums so they put this song in with their class b material. This song rocks. To me some of their best music is on Lost Dogs. Their B material is better than most bands A material, thats what I love about Pearl Jam

Nobody ever said that Lost Dogs was the songs 'they didn't feel were good enough'... Lost Dogs were all the songs that just didn't get stuck on the CDs. Artists usually don't put every song they write on a CD, Lost Dogs was just a 2 CD compilation of all the songs that they wrote, but didn't put on the albums.

It's not even a matter of the size, CDs have to flow, you can't just put all your songs on an album just because you wrote them.

I love this pj song, dave was an amazing drummer but as idealistic and political as eddie is it's not surprising that a guy who toted a gun and was right wing wouldn't make it long term in pearl jam, and obviously vedder and mcready are the heart of the band.

'Alone' was one of the B-Sides, Along with the alternative version of 'Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town', to the single for 'Go'.

The CD and vinyl versions of the UK release had a bonus cassette of Animal (Live) meaning they were ineligible for the UK chart. As a result it failed to make the Top 40 as only the cassette single sales were counted.

Also, the version of 'Alone' on the single was the second version and had Dave Abbruzesse on Drums. The one on 'Lost Dogs' was the original version recorded with Dave Krusen on Drums.

the alone stuido version was first on a pj import single (and i cant for the life of me remember which one!) but if you buy pj's lost dogs cd it's on there. there's also a great bootleg type twodisc called 'chapters' which has a great alternate version of alone, along with lots of other cool stuff, like the instrumental demo versions of a few Ten songs that the band first sent vedder before he wrote words to them and joined the band... gasp....gasp...dont get me talkin about pearl jam dangit
