I've seen kids, and outfits like this in real life in combat...generally in a body bag. This was just a story and it turned out pretty well, but in real life outfits like "Red Squad" generally end up with a knock on the door of the next of kin by the chaplin.

@Wolf101101 This was edited BIG TIME. These kids WERE killed. Only Jake Sisco, the Ferengi Nog and one other chick survived (you know the one that showed irritation with Nog when he brought it up at the full crew meeting that the plan had problems). Nog who was infactuated with Red Squad and their new Red Squad Captain realizes this in the end after a close conversation with Jake. After floating in escape pods they were rescued by the Defiant.

This is the worst. I can't believe you took the footage and not only had the crew survive, but rewarded them. This contravenes everything the episode was about. You didn't mention that Waters was a pill popper, you didn't show that Riley had already been a cadet who was duped into participating in a coup on Earth. What a load of bull. This is why there are so many "admirals" at conventions. Self aggrandizement.

@TheGreatLink To be fair, main characters are exceptionally skilled/experienced and/or lucky. The DS9 main characters usually employed hit and run tactics vs Jem 'Hadar attack ships and stayed away from the larger dominion ships. These guys did not take into account that they could lose, a prospect every commander must consider.

There's a reason that they got the horns. They were foolhardy and inexperienced. They believed they were invincible, and they paid the price for it. The captain was the worst of them all, though, because to get that far in a command track, you should know better than to pull that crap.

When you edit an ending because it makes you feel bad, you're stripping away the beauty of a show.

@CrystalBearer20 indeed, Kirk knew that he wasn't invincible, he listened to his crews suggestions and they kept the Enterprise away from Nero's ship and only beamed himself and Spock on it, he beamed over not to prove anything but to rescue Pike and saboteurs the ship, Kirk is a risk taker, but he knows not to risk his crew or his ship simple for pride.
