Remember, not so long ago, when MBS actually had mainline(real) service from both United (737 and 727) and Northwest (mostly DC-9 and occasionally Airbus 319). The new MBS Terminal is a decade to late, they should have built it before Flint, back when MBS was in the top 3 airports in the State. Now I am supposed to get excited about a stretched version of a glorified business jet...
actually....2 years ago we had 3 dc 9s stay overnight and launch in the morning..then it changed to an embraer 175 a crj900 and a dc9. for christmas we flew airbus a319s out of mbs. and we still have mainline service with one dc9 a week...lol. i would like to just point out we are not a hick town. we usually fill up our flights. many business travelers fly in here. they have been going to fnt lately cuz they fant first class seats...sooo we need a different airplane instead of the crj200
Haha! First time anyone has called an RJ a "larger plane". What a joke! We really need to stop flying to these hick towns like Saginaw! Just drive the 2 bloody hours to Detroit!
Wow, what kind of idiot are you? Even a FULL CR9 only gets half a mile per gallon...hardly more fuel efficient than a 30 MPG car! So if it takes 20 cars to take the same number of passengers, that's the equivalent of one 1.5 MPG aircraft... Three times better than the CR9. You are a fucking idiot.
No need to call names. Actually, if you work out the math, the CR9 burns about 2200 lbs of fuel per hour at cruise, let's say .70 mach at around FL320. That works out to about 320 gallons of fuel per hour. .70 mach is about 520 mph, so divide 520 by 320 and you get 1.625 miles per gallon at cruise. Now take the CR9 MTOW of 80,500 lbs * 1.625 and you get 130,813 lbs moved with 1 gallon of fuel. By comparison, a 3500 lb car at 22 mpg moves 77,000 lbs on 1 gallon. Unless I did the math wrong...
I love the Airport, and have all my life! BUT, you`ll have a better chance of seeing two grasshoppers mating on the fence then any planes! Com`on!..."the jet ways are twice as tall as the aircraft", only what.... 12 flights a day now....sad. "Now a new Airport"? CRAZY!!

if it makes money, then why not

Because it is *extremely* bad for the environment and it is socially irresponsible.

This is rubbish, you would rather have 70 cars driving to Detroit rather than one airplane that is more fuel efficeient than one car??
