  • this mother freakin' movie made me cry like an idiot in front of a tv alone.

  • This song is sad, yet I can not stop listining to it.

  • it is strange .. i didn't cry even i watch it so many times , but i can feel the pain of them.

  • I have never seen a movie that could make me break down and cry, this movie is amazing and very heart wrenching

  • Can you tell me name of this song?

  • very few movies have made me break down and feel depressed for long periods of time. this is one of them.

  • love this movie... watched it when i was younger, and i'll always remember it.

  • I could not stop crying at the end of this film :'( Such an amazing movie and shows so much emotion

  • What an amazing movie loved it to bits.

  • The music plays a very important role in this anime. It really brings up the sadness.

  • Grrr the aunt, what a mean bitch !!

  • when i first watched this movie a few years back, i already know what is gonna happen and i thought i get through with it. But when this song played, i stopped, because i actually broke down in tears when i listen to it. I haven't felt that sadness in years. I couldn't even watch the rest of the movie. That music plucked the right string for me.

  • I cried so bad to this movie and couldn`t stop fpr hours !

The own problems seem so small when you see that movie and you just want to hug those poor children and to bring them out there T.T

It is so sad because it just tells their story without convicting anyone.

  • so hauntingly beautiful <3

  • LETS GET THIS MOVIE ENOUGH VOTES TO GO FROM 124 TO 1 ON THE IMDB TOP 250

  • this is an untold story of someone thats happened to them in real life.

RIP to all those who didnt make it through <3

  • it has been 3 days now. i can't stop thinking about this movie.

  • This is the best score of the whole movie, and one of my favorites :) As for the movie, it's such a sad film, but a great one. It's simply the story about a brother and his sister, protecting one another. It shows that even during the worst times, there is still love and compassion in the world, and even if there is a tragedy, you will always have your loved ones with you and will meet up with them again. Truely one of the best and most underated animated films out there.

  • Don't watch this movie if you:

    1. Are a kid as this movie will stunt your emotional growth forever. Wait until you're older.

    2. You've had an incredibly depressing day. This film will destroy any will for living afterwards.

  • @ppbonbon omg..i agree with you!

  • I saw this movie for the first time last night with my kids "OMG" I had a lump in my throat the size a golf ball everyone telling me it will make you cry weren't kidding. My daughter cried and my sons I could tell were doing the same thing I was doing, trying not to. I almost turned it off twice cause I didn't if I could get through it but I didn't turn it off, no has done that to me before. Truely sad story.

  • This is 1st ever anime DVD I bought 7 years ago. I just attracted to the picture on the back of the DVD cover, someone walking in a rain with an old umbrella. I was expecting an animation with a beautiful background. But listening to the intro song suddenly make me cry, whats wrong with me?!! Then, woahhhh! I cried till the end of this film! I never watch anything sad like this one! I made subtitle in my own language and show it to my little sister. Beautifully narrated film! Its a masterpiece!!

  • This is so sad. Always when I watch this film I cry. I remember lion king when I was a little boy. Today I'm 26 years old and I cry when I watch Grave of Flies 2 more firmly. Beautiful Film. Sorry for my bad english

  • Such a sad movie, so touching and really shows the reality of what children go through everyday just because of war and conflict and the saddest part is they have nothing to do with the wars they are just the innocent victims that get dragged inside :(

Beautiful movie yet again by studio ghibli <3

    Save the war children!

  • This isn't just the Saddest Anime, Its the saddest Movie..:'(

  • when you came back to this scene after watching the ending.. some part of you will find this very wanted happy ending you were looking for.

  • touché <3

  • I just cried just by seeing the two characters again, this is so terrible... :*s

I can"t watch it again, I just can't. Why I had to be almost of the same of age of Seita and with a little sister like Setsuko when I saw it for the first time ? This movie is the reason why I always look on the bright side of life, why we should be happy no matter what's happening to us. Even them are smiling, laughting and playing - that's the way life should be, always.

  • i just could not watch this movie without tears and was crying continuously

i feel really bad about complaining about food and for everything after watching this movie

  • kids these days with their Call of Duty and their Halo (odd saying this seeing as I am also within that age range.) I would just LOVE to see some of my fellow high schoolers sit through this entire movie. None of them can really fathom the fragility of life or the true horrors that war can cause.

  • never cried at a movie let alone a cartoon.

  • "Well it's been a while since i saw the movie, can't hit me no more"

"I really want to listen to the main theme again, not if i'll be sad after all it's just a song"

*google: youtube graveof the fireflies soundtrack*

    *play*

" hum huh hu, lol , hey ho, no. no. no. i swear it's not tears."

    *play again*

    *play again*

    *play again*

  • Watched this a few times...the 3rd time, I just died when this started. Never been so effected by a movie, let alone a cartoon. Just a complete feeling of desperation and hopelessness brought on by war.

This film had nothing to do with the US/Japan, if anything, it was what the 'adults' brought onto their children.

  • is the artist joe hisaishi??

  • @trumpet290 It is directed by Isao Takahata based on a story by Akiyuki Nosaka. I dont know about the music.

  • @trumpet290 The original soundtrack was written by Japanese composer Michio Mamiya..=)

    ...finally found it...

  • i literally cried from the beginning to the end watching this movie D:

  • The intro is sad enough the first time around... but on subsequent viewings, full knowledge of the backstory makes it one of the most heartwrenching scenes in the entire film.

  • *sobs*

  • Balled my head off in the movie...completely just lost it!

Just hearing it now brings back the tears...

  • I watched the whole thing on youtube, then I bought the dvd. I've only watched it twice though, because it's too depressing to watch.

  • the 1 disliker must be the aunt

  • @LilSnappe3r That lady was a bitch -__-

  • @Lelouchisabeast Japan had just been bombed and they were all struggling. Sure she was mean, but I feel in a way she had her reasons too.

  • @Xamurae very well said my friend

  • this movie made me cry inside :( this song is absolute beautiful.

  • Picasso once said "Art is a lie that told the truth." Grave' is the perfect example of this quote because even though it's not real, it told a true story about Japanese children during the Kobe fire bombings. I think GOTF is the pinnacle of all film because it excelled it had an uncompromising, believable and moving story with very realistic characters. It's extremely sad that this cinematic masterpiece is still relatively unknown 22 years after its theatrical debut.

  • Just go done watching it again. Still can' believe Setsuko had to go and worst of all the brother had cremate her. Damn their aunt ! Beautiful movie none the less.

  • Oddly enough, it took me more than a week after having watched this movie for it to really hit me. I just noticed the cover laying on my desk, I saw Setsuko, and that's when I started tearing up.

An absolutely wonderful movie that obviously became one of my favorites.

  • I don't think I'll be able to watch this film again for a veeerry long time, it absolutely slaughtered me, actual hysterical crying.

    amazing film

  • I found it strange that for other movies which you wouldnt think are that sad (gladiator and the legend) made me cry but this one just left me feeling very depressed. So depressed it was to the point where i didnt feel like moving, eating, drinking for the rest of the day. Even though it left me feeling like that I still agree that it was an amazing movie and should be watched by more people.

  • Just hearing the music brings a tear to my eye.First time i've cried in over 10 years i'm a grown dammit, i don't even cry when people close to me die this ain't right!

  • This movie just made me cry, cry and cry.

  • Just seeing the beginning of the movie already made really sad.

  • The most amazing movie ever, not forgetting Spirited Away.

  • @HSMFreak147

Do not "Princess Mononoke"! One of Miyzaki's greatest including "Spirited Away",

  • every time i see this movie i cry.

  • @WhisperOfTheHeart474 I do, too.

  • My second watching was the worst, by myself trying to disprove the feelings about it. Oh how I failed.

  • I already start crying when I listen to this song :( This movie was the saddest thing I've ever experienced in my whole life...

  • this music really makes me cry :'-(

  • I have not even seen this movie, and I'm still crying.

  • this movie made me so depress :(

    but it was so beautiful

  • I cried big time in this movie.

Deffinetly one of my favorites, by far! (:

    So amazing, and sad.

  • Gosh this movie is so sad I actually cried watching it which is rare for me o_o LOL

  • That's for bombing pearl harbor?

  • @Aaronthereal1:

No, the movie doesn't cover Pearl Harbor nor Hiroshima. In this movie, they're on a completely different island in Japan. It is a fantastic movie though; my class and I watched it and we were all if not almost in tears :)

  • @mangacrazyXmusicluvr I was just messing with you. I haven't seen the movie, I'm more of a comedy guy.

  • I think its so cool how the song takes a bit of a creepy turn by the end

  • my parents were worried why the heck I was crying..

this isnt the first time I cried watching a movie..

but this is the first I cried til my face went totally red and swollen in a movie T^T

  • i've watched this movie and ended up crying.. it's especially sad when his sister died due to starvation... :'(

  • nice spoiler.

  • its so sad that films like this stay unknown while transformers gross millions if not billions

  • Exactly how I feel. I saw this 2 days ago and thought it was a classic film that should not be forgotten.

Those of us who had the chance to see this film know how great it is and can appreciate a work of art when we see it.

  • Comment removed

  • @BornToDie90 i agree with you so much. and this movie has meaning and has actually happened, whilst transformers will not.

  • @BornToDie90 Yeah... I'm just starting to find these!

  • @BornToDie90 or worse yet, Twilight....series! the best movies don't need sequels the whole story is told in one epic movie, such as Grave of the Fireflies.

  • @BornToDie90 This film even stays unknown amongst other Ghibli films that are worse, I disliked Howl's Moving Castle but that's what a lot of people associate with Ghibli

  • @BornToDie90 hmm i wouldnt say unknown these filma are huge in great parts of the world. Just not so much america.

  • @BornToDie90

I don't think anyone can say that these movies are "unknown"

Grave of the Fireflies is fucking huge even twenty something years after its release

  • hearing the music, it makes me crying again. Never seen a movie with such impact.

  • i watched this last nite and i swear i have never cried so much during a movie, i was even crying in bed afterwards hahaha one of the most emotional movies i have ever watched, one of the alltime greats :)

  • makes me cry

  • I have read this movie is "a must watch" in every school in Japan. It's like the official part of literature.

  • I already cried when they started playing this song, which is about 5 minutes into the movie. ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER!!! A must see!

  • I HAVE TO OWN THIS MOVIE!!!

  • This film is just so painful to watch. It is the most realistic film I've ever seen because it shows that such an awful experience is possible in this world. I usually get over sad films and can watch them lots of times but this one I just can't. And this piece perhaps sums the whole film up.

  • what's so heartbreaking is that things like this occurred in world war II many times over and in continue to occur in some areas of the world today

  • love this soundtrack

  • anybody who hasnt seen this film is just weird

one of the BEST films of ALL TIMES

  • I sobbed at the final 15 minuets, it was so simple, touching and moving. really recommend to you!

  • dammmmmmm it was goood

  • The saddest movie of Ghibli's.

  • Its so dark compared to all the other Ghibli stuff, definitely my favourite Ghibli piece though

  • seriously, I cried from the very begining!!

  • Best film i have ever seen

  • i saw this movie and it was sad i almost cried wacthing it my grandma and me watched it

  • Omg I can't believe I found this, I have been looking for this for years, thank you so much for posting it. The grave of the fireflys is in my opinion one of the greatest masterpieces of Asian cinema, and definitely comparable to Schindler's List

  • Nii-Chan!! But now it's over..

    *sob*

  • I sobbed and sobbed when Seita starts crying for the first time. It's when Setsuko tells him she knows their mother died. I feel more sorry for him than any other character. He has to become like a father when he needs his mother more than ever.

  • Oh my goodness. I have not seen this movie in so long. But boy, do I remember how depressing it was.

I will go watch it now!

  • You can cheer up and watch Spirited Away

  • it was so...sad..when..i..watched..thiss-BWA HA HA HA HAAAAAA! DX

And I´ve never cried to any movie, eccept of this.

  • Oh my God, me too. The only other movie that's ever made me cry besides this is Princess Mononoke. This had me bawling my eyes out.

  • Princess Mononoke made me cry too :)

  • wads the name of this song ???

  • Setsuko and Seita - Main Title. It's the real title for the song, I think that's the literal translation..

  • なぜだかわからんが聴いてると涙がぼろぼろでてくる
