A very impressive performance of this by someone so young.Lovely interpretation and style. It's so difficult and everyone has their favourite performer-all i know is ,if it brings tears to my eyes, they've done it right. This did!
Am I the only one to notice the strong similarities between the way Mendelssohn composed for violin and strings in general and the way Tchaïkowsky would do it later (nutcr.,swane lake, violin c. or symphonies) for the same instruments? For exemple in this concerto the similarities strike me each time I hear it: the contrasts between the orchestra playing simple descending scales pizzicato and the solo violin playing difficult and accentuated legato melody, for exemple in the first movement. ..
...Or in the final as well, here the second theme is completly "tchaïkowskyian"-style with the theme played by an independant cello line, lyrical and legato, starting at 0:04, supported by double basse playing staccato only the fundamental notes, and the euphoric violin melody on the top! I just love it!! I've not seen so far any article or commentary pointing out the general similarities between M. and T.'s string composition. Am I the only one?
I once thought I could do HW and listen to classical music. I was wrong. xD I just sit there and listen and get very little done when I try unless I completely ignore the music.
I have seen Mutter playing Beethoven's violin concerto with the BPO, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, on YouTube, but unfortunately the videos are no longer available....
@romkidd Don't get me wrong she is pretty but the reason why is because a lot of the music community are old (no offense) well most of the known people are and because of that new people especially as young as her is uncommon. Which is another reason why she is so FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!

My god, the subtitles are soooooo anoying, like is everyone totally dumb, are all the vewer's knuckles on the floor? Read about the Bongas of svalbardin umberto eco's essays and you will undertand.
Anyone could play that good if they spent 7 days a week practising, for 15 years, and had natural talent, the best teachers in the world, and the guts, courage and determination to be a soloist....
(In case you're wondering, I'm saying she's very special :-)
This is a wonderful by Janine Jansen. It is perhaps true that women violinists probably tend to play stronger vibrato. I like her energy here here, she has some mannerismswhich reminds me of Joseph Szigeti.

What happened to the days when musicians relied on the beauty and warmth of their playing to attract audiences not their dresses and weird choreographed movements that destroy the sound? p.s. someone shoot Norrington before he does anymore damage to the great musical masterworks!
I've heard many performances of this concerto, even another one by Janine and I think this is the best one. She may not be as accurate as Hilary Hahn, but she's much more expressive. She really feels what she's playing though maybe she is not elegant enough..It's really difficult to find soloists (even people!) who are truely passionate and elegant at the same time
No classical Violinist ever fakes playing. You can't really compare violinists together. Its like comparing apples and oranges, everyone has their own distinctive sound. I personally think she played that much better than Hahn. Hahn has no passion when she plays, she is pure technical. Jansen has soul and technical abilities
Uhm... this was on the BBC Proms. It was not faked. Anyway, I think she's great. I'd personally play the 2nd movement a bit slower. But, in Mendelssohn's time it would probably have been played a bit faster. Her best movement is the 3rd though.
OK but what on earth is distinctive here, maybe there's more to see in the first and second movements. She seems like a fake, not as good Hilary Han to me.

Janine Jansen is a superior artist and very nice person.
Btw, is that actor Bill Nighy in the audience (bottom-right corner in the picture) at 3:50 or just someone looking like him ?

Eine außergewöhnlich gute Aufführung von Orchester und Solistin(!) -
dieses wohl großartigsten Violinkonzertes überhaupt.
Der unvergessen Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy läßt gleichermaßen begeister grüßen.

The second movement was torn to pieces with that dreadful vibrato and over the top passion .The outer
movements simply superb If she would only let the slow
movement take care of itself and use that great bow arm to control the colouring it would have been an
unforgetable performance .She overplays .She could be
without rival but for that vibrato business .

I've never seen anyone playing so without passion like Janine.
