  • im getting mine today in the mail. i cant wait

  • At 0:20 the reviewer compares a more recent edition (also from catalyst) to the 25th anniversary set whilst claiming (falsely) that it is the original box. The original publisher of Battletech was FASA not catalyst (google it). As an old gamer from the eighties and nineties I have plenty of fond memories of the FASA original, as I am sure many others do as well who helped the series to last as long as it did. Even though I don't game as often as I used to I'd probably buy it out of nostalgia.

  • @ThomasEddySon he didnt say "original" he said "older". It is the "original" catalyst games lab box though. Catalyst took over from Wizkids and Fanpro in 2007 who are the people who took over from FASA in 2000

  • @Fish12002 if it were any other version I'd agree with you but being the "anniversary" edition I feel the reviewer should extend the courtesy of giving credit where credit is due. You obviously know some of the history behind the title but many don't and are relatively newcomers to the hobby - let me reiterate that I have many fond memories of the original and feel some credit should be given to what for many is a long-time favorite. Bugger now your making feel old and I am only 45 ;P

  • You can also play this game without hexes. Catalyst games Labs provides the supplemental full terrain rules for free. We play this game with full terrain without hexes at conventions and stores.

  • The introductory rulebook is very similar to the old CityTech rulebook.

I did a review myself not too long back. youtube.com/watch?v=ts-8qXFn3a8

  • we don't get a full mech listing?????????? D:

  • i still have 1st and 2nd edition of battletech!

  • No I can't see anything on the mechs.

  • thanks for the review! this has helped me alot in choosing battetech as a new game

  • I just got mine and I'm very satisfied. This is very good box and clanner in me is happy about quality of Hellbringer and Summoner.

  • @Mecha82: At last someone calls the Clan 'Mechs with their Real names!

I was going to complain how PurplePawnBlog called them Loki and Thor. Bah!

Anyway, I liked the unboxing video and can't wait to get my box.. maybe this week even.

  • Being serious for a moment: two notes about your review, the bottom of the box set states that the map you weren't sure about the year was circa 3067, so you weren't TOO far off. The Quick Start Rules (p3) and the Introductory Rulebook (p6) state you get two copies of the cardstock Tables Cards, I only got one copy, and it looks like you only got one copy too.

  • Is this what I would get if I wanted to get started with battletech? How do I get started?

  • I may just be showing my age here but the first maps I owned for myself were cardboard and looked (from what I can see in this video) exactly the same as these "new" ones.

I applaud the new box set but to act like some of this has never been seen before is just silly. I don't know the person in this video but his amazement at some of the features in this box that have been there for a long time is just weird.

  • Mmmmmmmmm ... Poster.

  • Well I wanted it before, now I REALLY want it. :) Great unboxing video man.

  • The basic mech miniatures, frankly look pretty crappy. I have a mix of mechs from all the different boxed sets over the last two decades...

The new assembled miniatures looks much more like what I would expect now a days. If you want to attract new players there needs to be updating. And creating awesome looking miniatures is a good place to start.

  • Quick note pointed out by a commenter on PurplePawn: the vehicle & infantry quick start and vehicle construction rules were present in the last box set as well! Sorry for the mix-up!

  • Absolute agreement on the plastic for the omni-mechs - great stuff. The maps in the new box look like they've been updated graphically - the art is a bit more realistic than previous versions (and it's on mounted cardboard). Really feel like Catalyst nailed this one - worth the wait.

  • So Nice

  • the two premium mechs in the box are wonderful. i have two sets that i recieved at gencon 2009. they are made of the same 'type' of plastic that games workshop type miniatures are molded from, and are in multiple pieces wich lends well for reposing and or doing the different configurations.

the Map is the classic map from the box set (and in previous box sets), very durable, very well made, and easily used for much broader play where you need more than one map.

  • Newcomer here.

Pre-order ready. Me and more 5 friends are eagerly awaiting for it's arrival.

  • A long awaited set and definitely worth it.
