  • Wonderful! I love Jerome Kern songs and this is a lovely rendition. Wish I'd lived in that era, but still try to write songs in that style anyway (see my page if you've time!)

The ever famous chorus beings here.

  • One of the best renditions....!! Listen to the London Sinfonietta and Ambrosian Chorus one too.....!!

  • @dido93 Thanks!

  • Why can`t they write songs like this NOW, superb melody and lyric.

  • @re6356 Glad you enjoyed it - it is beautiful, isn't it?

  • @re6356 The reason why people can't write songs like this anymore. Singers of the present do not even have talent. They only know how to shout. Singers before are motivated to write songs like this because they have the talent.

  • @re6356 Part of the reason, I think is that young wannabe songwriters and composers fail to study and learn from the masters. Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin and Harry Warren all had some degree of classical training.

In addition, great lyrists such as Porter, Ira Gershwin and Lorenz Hart had studied the lyrics of W.S. Gilbert - perhaps the greatest English-language lyricist - very carefully.

Young people today don't bother. *sigh*...

  • @Oxydox I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much!

  • I really like Jerome Kern, and really like pre-Richard Rogers Oscar Hammerstein. And I like Rogers and Hart. Maybe it's the time period, but pre 1950 musicals are so much cooler than the later ones.

  • @presbyterosBassI Thank you!

  • I get to sing this song for a recital this sunday(: Im so nervous tho

  • @MOJO828 GOOD LUCK!!! :)

  • I get to sing this song for a recital this sunday(: Im so nervous tho/

  • Wonderful. Just read a biography of Kern. Said he was a hard-working

and brilliant composer. Also often difficult to work with. Same thing has been

    said of Richard Rogers.

Oscar Hammerstein, however, worked with both and was always

    cheerful and polite.

Used to have lots of Joan Morris records. A wonderful singer who

recorded a lot of music not otherwise available.

    Tnx 4 the beautiful post.

  • @rockgor Hi - thanks for all the info. Jerome Kern was a great composer. Glad you enjoyed the post! :-)

  • one of the greatest songs ever, in any type of music

  • @peacemonger1967 Thank you for commenting :)

  • my pleasure@oakroom48

  • Dear oakroom48 . I received your speed and kind message, including like gift, the video with Joan Morris singing " All the things you are " . I am that brazilian old man ( 77 years old ). I am widowed at long time and that melody makes me remind my wife that has gone so earlier. It is like a " anthem music ", very romantic and nostalgic . I supose you are buzy and works into your room builded with that wood OAK . So, good work for you and thanks again.

  • @Arqueiroify Thank you, Arqueiroify, for your kind message. I am glad you have enjoyed my page and also this post of the wonderful Morris & Bolcomb :) Kind regards ...

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever written. And Joan Morris is very pleasant to listen to. Thank you very much

  • @zelmanzelman Thank you for commenting :)

  • You are the angel glow...do they write lyrics like this today?

  • Thanks for your comment!

  • @buffgal41 I don't think music is actually the same today, now if you've got good connections and an alright voice you're a musician ;P

  • Goodness, this is absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. The "trick" Kern pulls around 1:27 is worthy of Schubert.

  • I love the song - and as far as Schubert ... hey, apples & oranges. Kern was a great composer:) Thanks for commenting!!

  • Actually, it's not apples and oranges. Kern greatly admired Schubert...as did Gershwin. I don't mean to turn this into an argument, :-)

  • Very interesting!! I'm not surprised and am very grateful for this information. No argumentative tone taken!!! Many thanks for the info. Great song writers all ... -b

  • Definately one of the best songs ever written. I hope the so called song writers of today listen to this: great lyric and magnificent melody.

  • Thank you for commenting!

  • Thanx for this beautiful J. Kern tune. Joan Morris has a truly lovely voice.

  • My pleasure! Thanks for commenting:)

  • Lovely, charming performance. One of Jerome Kern's best. In fact, this ranks among the best songs by any composer.

    Thank you.

    Kestal

  • Wow, Kestal! Coming from you, this is high praise!! Thanks for commenting and glad you enjoyed it:) -b^^

  • Ah, I love these classic songs by Kern. I haven't heard Joan Morris in years. I used to have some of her LP's, maybe still do someplace. :)

  • Glad you checked it out!! Years .. alas .. thanks for commenting :)

  • ...charming I love it...

  • Merci, Claude :)

  • Love it! Didn't Hammerstein write 'South Pacific'?

  • He was the librettist for SP, yes [I had to look it up - Bwy not really my thing]. But I love these songs of Jerome Kern. I have a number of others performed by these 2 artists that I like a lot. Thanks for your comment - glad you liked it:)

  • Oh, what a relief this morning not to have to figure out the language and wonder what's going on!!! Lovely words and music and delightful singing.

  • Sounds great to me! You should do this more often. Thanks, Barry

  • Hi patjan92, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I am not Barry, but I see he liked it as well & I value his opinion :) I plan to post more of these songs done by Morris & Bolcom in the future. Thank you for commenting!

  • Haha .. thanks, Barry :D I'll try to post more of this singer. I love their work - Morris and Bolcom are married. And he is a composer of some note. Glad you liked it !!

  • Thanks for this! We should never forget to honour the "lighter" muses, I for one am indebted to them!

  • Thanks! These "standards" are kind of the American "lieder", don't you think? Kern, Gershwin, Cole Porter, usw. Glad you liked it :)

  • very sweet......5* :)

  • glad u liked it! -b xxo :)

  • So much sweetness and creativity!!!. Muchas gracias !!!!!, ~Sergio

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting:) ciao -b xxo
