  • fabulous theme---perhaps the best all around one---no going back after they did this one. I especially love the bridge--class act.

  • my grand mother LOVED Mannix boy i'm tellin you. She never missed a show. I don't know why but she was crazy about the show. I love dit too as a little kid.

  • Mike Connors has a smile that is really not acting. He smiles like that even in his interviews. BTW Joe Mannix is actually Joseph Mannix. Only once in the series I heard him being called that, by another actor who played his Dad!

  • This theme should haved joined those other masterpieces of the 60s like route 66 etc. Altogether to cool for the 70s.Good arrangement especially the brass.

  • Thanks for the great memories.

  • What a flashback to hear this. I was in my early teens.

  • Sagean lynn maxe, isn't that the Grand kid of Gail Fisher?

  • A kid In our sitting room all those years ago wow. Well done for putting it up.

  • One of the most sophisticated themes of the Seventies.

  • I wonder who composed this? nice.

  • @1BLKnUSA The composer was the GREAT Lalo Schifrin (the same composer of the Mission Impossible theme!

  • Its better than the man from Uncle

  • To hell with the Flintstones... THIS is what I ran home to watch at lunchtime. Many thanks for posting!

  • Well here I go, but I think Hawaii 5-O sort of, kind of, was modeled after Mannix. McGarrett even looks a lot like Joe. Hawaii 5-O was Mannix with the island glitz as veritable distractions but as I say this, they were both outstanding, stand-alone programs I would never be disappointed were I stuck with only one or the other to watch.

Agreeing with all who say this was a terrific theme and that piano part really made it pop!

  • @SteveB801 And Pop it did!

  • hi funney one there bout peggy HA! i think mike was brother of the late chuck connors who presented thrill seekers way back then anyone know? also chuck starred in murder she wrote as seen him on episode recently, was wondering was the pro recent.. and in walks chuck, . .dead for 30 plus years rip. that answered my question. pb manchester.

  • Wasn't this and Earle Hagen piece?

  • @carmium No, Lalo Schifrin.

  • @Juliaflo When it comes down to TV and movie themes, Lalo Schifrin f 'ing rules!

  • @jaykerouac2 I second that. But let us not forget luminaries like Maurice Jarre, and most of all (drumroll, please) Mike Post.

    Merry Christmas.

  • @carmium este programa era presentado en mexico por el centromercantil y alicia rodriguez

  • Hey real musical instruments! They don't write 'em like this anymore.

  • loved Mannixx but he was always getting beat up, lol

  • i wanted to grow up to be mr. peggy, but was afraid toby would grow up to be really huge and kick my ass.

  • @swimmerB0B Haha! Toby was kinda chubby as I recall...

  • great show and great jazz theme

  • Loved this show! Joe Mannix was so tough and cool and the fact that he had a phone in his car was just amazing in those days.

  • great show, great theme

  • GOOD !

  • do androids dream of electric sheep? So many memories and none of them mine! "You don't have to die at 30, you can live!!"

  • This is pure Jazz! Love it! And the show.

  • I was sure I would grow up to be Mrs. Mannix. Didn't happen, but I still love the theme song. Mike Connors is the epitome of "cool".

  • Beautiful quality! I watched this as a pre-teen and wondered why Peggy stayed working for Maninx. She would be kidnapped or slapped around by some bad guy- at least ask for a raise! LOL!

  • These theme songs takes me back to the 70's when I was a kid. Great time and great memories.

  • Lalo Schifrin was to the 70s what Bernstein, Newman and company with a little Basie and Quincy Jones thrown in for good measure. Never heard a Schifrin swinger I failed to enjoy, a master thats for sure. Oh and by the way Mannix wasn,t bad either.

  • Hawai police d etay

  • Mannix fucked actually fucked Peggy in season 2.

  • Who remembers Lew Alcindor in an episode???

  • My retro fix for the day... thanks...

  • I think Lalo Shifrin did the music for MANNIX, so he MIGHT have been playing the piano....just a guess . . . .

  • they filmed one of the shows in Pomona Ca. back in the day. I remember going to watch them on my bike with my brother.

  • listening to this makes feel old.i watch this show as it originally aired.

  • One of the greatest detective series on TV, ever. Joe Mannix was awesome!

  • @jimmiejoe007 .... man you are soooo right!!!!

  • One of the great TV themes, how good is that piano??

  • Somewhere Jungle Jim Jerome is smiling to this music.

  • remember that season 5 dvd of the greatest show ever comes out july 5 2011

  • I'm about to learn this on piano, I'm super excited, it sounds awesome!

  • @hippygooful EEEXXXXCELLENT! do a good job learning it and impress the oldsters and your high school music teacher, it will blow their minds!

  • @TheEldoradoKid I'll do my best. :)

  • One of the best TV theme songs of all time!

  • I heard Rosie O'Donnell has a new cop show coming on in the fall - it's called "Mannish". Thank you - try the veal....

  • Mannix a great Private Detective show with one of the best intros ever

  • good old mannix hey hey was actually a brother of chuck conners who presented Thrillseekers in the 70`s sadly neither no longer with us peggy was his secetary mannix died of poisioning at the end of the series not real OH CANT YOU STILL HEAR THAT RING OF HIS PHONE IN HIS OFFICE patrick Burke manchester.

  • I remember Mike Connors and Peggy Lipton, but I don't remember the theme song...

  • @shmuli9 Gah... I meant "Gail Fisher"... Her character was Peggy Something...

  • @shmuli9 Peggy fisher.

  • I think that he had one of the first car phones I can remember seeing in a TV series. Had a handset just like a house phone if I remember right. Wonder if his calls ever got dropped?

  • ce feuilleton de ma jeunesse je l'adorais

  • Thanks for posting. What wonderful memories of childhood this brings back!

  • I loved Mannix as a kid. :)

  • Over the years I have found myself humming this theme out of absolutely nowhere which tells me it is and always has been a classic. Lalo Schifrin sometimes reminds me of Vince Guaraldi arrangements, wonderful memories of a fantastic musical era!

  • @steviekey RIGHT ON !!

  • Cool..thanks for posting!

  • Lalo Schifrin is brilliant.

  • lalo shifrin...legend

  • miss peggy what a doll

  • j'adore cette musique et la serie .. que de souvenirs d'enfances le samedi soir des annees 70

  • Gail Fisher was so beautiful as Peggy!

  • @najami12 Yes, she was great.

  • Great quality! Too bad it is not matched with the scenes from the opening credits, then it would be perfect!

  • Another Great Theme Tune from Lalo Schifrin!

If you like this check out his theme tune for Medical Center.

  • great show great song, use to stay up late night to watch this, thanks mike for great acting and thanks for greatr music and memories

  • now i wonder why people call me Mannix from the old days!

  • This music sounds like something out of "Johnny Quest" soundtrack.

  • television series' had theme music then . . . this is one of the greatest themes of all. there are several recorded versions available online.

  • write and call paramount. tell them to release all the rest of the seasons from 4 til the end. i called and they had no info. if enough call and write, maybe they will release them. ask for the home video dept. also write and call tv land. tell them to put mannix back on prime time. there is no reason why the best tv show ever made is not seen anymore.

  • @cheesecakepie1 If CBS can come back with a new "Hawaii Five-O" this fall, a new rendition of "Mannix" may not be that far off, or even "Mission Impossible."

  • @cheesecakepie1 AMEN!!!!

  • Great music and very cool series. Anybody remember what kind of revolver he had? I think it might have been one of these S&W snubbies...

  • I and my friends, as children, knew this theme song by Lalo Schiffrin, written in jazz waltz, was going to be a classic. There was a time when bar bands in Asia would actually attempt this. Thanks for the glimpse of the past.

  • It's such a shame that most TV shows barely even have theme songs anymore. The networks take every second they can get to fill with commercials! It's just as well, I guess; no one today could create anything as rousing as this music is anyway.

  • The world needs more swing waltzes.

  • Thanks for the awesome post! I loved this show as a kid. A great piece of music! Thank you for giving it back! Blessings!

  • from sept 1967, i was in the 5th grade. mannix was my hero, i always rooted for joe.thanks for postin this fine song.

  • I would have loved vibes used instead of the piano for that feature but still, my #1 theme of all time

  • You need to hear the long version of this song by Lalo Schiffrin. It is on some compilation CD's of TV themes. It goes through various instruments having their instrumental breaks

  • I have that on a LP !!!!! Some great music in some of those TV shows. Another good one is "Bumpers Theme" from the White Knight" (?) I also loved the use of bassoons in the opening of McHales Navy but the tune didn't go too far

  • very good period and memories..great music !!!

  • i remember saying to myself as a child, cool music!!

  • it keeps me young . i wa syoung when mannix came on. 5th grade, sept 1967.

  • @shroomgurl That is cool! This show must have been on around 9:00. I remember hearing the theme song after I went to bed. I was around 6 or 7.

  • @dennello Mannix was on at 10:00pm EST.

Right after Hogan’s Heros, Ghost and Mr. Muir and Petticoat Junction.

    Yes, I don’t have a life.

  • @mikefastener My parents and aunt and uncle played cards on Saturday nights when this was on. I was a kid and my brother and I fell asleep to this show!

By the way was The Ghost and Mr. Muir the gay version of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir????? :-)

  • @IstvanN1961 Thanks for correcting me on, "The Ghost and MR Muir"....;however, at Seinfeld said, "not that there is anything wrong with that!".....lolol

Good memories--childhood memories--where has that time gone?

  • A much more intelligent America with discipline in its arts. What a great theme song!

  • A terrific example of the jazz waltz style. The bridge is especially tasty.

  • @vibraharp226 I'm not a musician myself (or certainly not much of one,) but I've always loved a waltz beat. I think it is because the cantor of my full maiden name was (unintentionally) a waltz. I like finding waltz beats in modern music, even pop & rock. But I would have never guessed this one to be a waltz, maybe because it is, as you say, a jazz waltz? Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I like jazz, when I hear it, & will now be listening for others that are simular.

  • @HGbunny If you like Jazz Waltzes, check out the tune "Bluessette". Just about everybody does a cover of it.

Here's a nice example I just found on solo jazz guitar.

  • @HGbunny

Here's another: "Skating" from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

    v=RHVhPwxu_hA&feature=related

  • @vibraharp226 I just listened to this Billy Mays classic tune mere minutes ago...Absolutely swingin' Lalo Schifrin FOREVER!

  • i remember when i used to figure skate I skated to this theme song and my mom picked it out of some old scrap music we had and I never knew what it was. thanx for posting

  • The role of Peggy Fair whom was played by Gail Fisher was originally meant for Nichelle Nicholes from "Star Trek"; Gene Roddenberry wouldn't release her from her contract.

  • beautiful black woman; made history dihann carroll didn't gail fisher...

  • I remember Diahann Carroll was considered the first black woman to star in a non-stereotypical role in a TV show called "Julia" where she played a nurse.

  • @bigpopparamma There could have been several reasons for that--you know Nichelle and Gene were an 'item'. Lover's quarrel? Who knows
