  • its due to to much RF in the wiring in the car, get a isolator for the cig lighter

  • Hello,

The problem with the Escort Radar detector is the connector cord to the radar detector needs to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol periodically. The metal corrodes ever so slightly and the voltage to the detector fluctuates and sets off the laser. When using certain dash cleaners it seems to accelerate the corrosion and make the cleanings have to be done more often.

Problem solved! Douglas in Green Bay

  • This has to do with your ehm, the battery voltage. Check if your battery is still good in your car. My friend had this too, he replaced his battery, and the problem was solved.

  • i dont have any of these problems i think u need place ur radar in a better place!!! wheres up and has a clear vantage point!

  • @nomocars23 I have this same problem in my Vette on high revs. I get a laser alert and it freaks me out every time. I'm going to take your suggestion and remount it higher, like behind the mirror. Thanks.

  • yea mine does the samething when start to push the gas!! WTF??

  • My x50 would occasionally false laser when i honked the horn.I drive a gmc canyon inline 5 cyl. I now have it mounted so that the bottom is level with the botom of the 5 inch tint at the top of the window.makes it impossible to see from oncoming vehicles,no more false laser and the tint doesnt effect performance at all.

  • I had that same problem. I found out it was with the connection with the cord to the radar detector. But i kept getting the laser sign too. and i just kept messing with the cord and it fixed it.

  • Send it back!!! lol

  • I only have ka band enabled this is only the the patrol cars use. not sure what country you are from but we dont really use laser guns here speed camera use k band but its a waste of time enabling it because you get so many false alerts

  • my x50 doesn't say x50 when u first start it, it only says 8500, can anyone tell me whats wrong.

  • it proberbly picking up the vibration on the dashboard when you rev your motor ?

  • wow thats weird um try mounting it above your mirror thats how mine is mounted and i got few if any false alerts try it and write me back if you do it

  • If you live near or drive near an Airport that can set off your laser. For some reason everytime I go to the airport and ride by that Tracker that spins continuously looking for airplanes my laser goes of on my Passport.

  • Send it back to Escort ...Everytime I visit relatives in Cincinnati I go there and have my radar det re-calibrated. Always have since the Beginning when they 1st came out.

  • That blows ass man.

Are your plug wires stock or aftermarket? If they are aftermarket, it's probably bombarding an array of various high freq. noise around your car. If your radio pops once in a while that's a definite YES.

A: Try returning plug wires to stock and see if it helps.

B: Try using ferrite beads or cable shielding to reduce noise emitted from the cables.

Good luck with that thing, it's a good unit.

  • Mine displays LASER when I use squirt my windows with the washer solvent while the wipers are on... also when i honk the horn...

  • does the escort 9500 do this?

  • why do you have it as low as you can. Your supposed to have it mounted as high as possible for best range.

  • Tdaz250

You mount it high for best RADAR range. When you mount it low, it's for best laser range.

  • well shouldnt you have it like right in the middle then?

  • If you mount it high, then it will detect laser on the cars infront of you better. Mounting it low just makes it more sensative to laser pointed at your vehicle.

  • Your cars too loud, ur detectors deaf now.

  • when i honk my horn it goes to laser...

  • have you tryed mounting the detector high up and seeing if it still happens?

  • Yep

  • LOL what the. Mine for about 2 months would go off everytime i started the car...then it just stopped its fine now

  • im going to stick with what i know the beltronics rx65

  • My radar started doing this too. No pop alerts just laser false alarms. Any fix? How do i master reset this thing?

  • Only way to fix it is to send it off to Passport and have them recalibrate it, but since im too lazy to do that i just went and turned off the laser radar, less protection...but meh...

  • That's annoying. I got mine from a guy and it just started doing it randomly. You think they will take it back without proof of purchase? Probably not...

And yea, if you get beamed by a laser your most likely fucked anyways.

  • cant do nothing once they laser you anyways. its too late by the time you slow down.

  • You need to relocate your detector up high and hardwire it. Such a good detector, but mounting it down low is killing your radar reception and looks like one of those 50 dollar Cobra units.

  • NOTE>>>>I had this same problem but after alot of research found out it was my sparkplugs in my truck that caused the problem. They lacked a resistor, once I changed all six plugs in my Syclone it has never registered "laser" at high engine RPM. Old plugs were putting out to much RFI. I shit you not.

  • i recently did the 90k maintenance on my car and changed the spark plugs while i was doing it, thought id give it a try and turn the Laser band back on, but problem still persists =/, oh well haha

  • The real question is, did you put in new spark plugs that don't have the filter built in? Even new wrong plugs will make the problem persist, but when it comes down to it, it's excessive RFI that caused it, source could be something other than plugs, could be the plug wires or other possibilities, for me it was the plugs themselves. Best of luck to you.

  • check the battery homie lawl jk

  • I bet the self-calibration, "self-screws it up" so you have to buy another one, or send it in for repair. Bastards! lol

  • Check your voltages - I've seen laser go off when it spikes, and it's pretty common apparently.

  • You might give higher mounting a try also. The windshield wipers block the x50's view and can also contribute to laser falses due to rev noises! Good Luck!

  • If you read the FAQ's section booklet that the X50 comes with it says that certain engines make the detector give off a false laser alert. I don't think that there is a specific reason or a glitch other than the engine's growl. Good Luck!

  • yea i thought about that but i had the radar in the car for about 6 months and it was normal until it did a self-calibration and all the mess started

  • I have this detector...and it saved me from countless highway troopers. This is by no competition the world's best detector...i would get your detector checked for a glitch by escort. They would fix it up...no reason to change to anything else...Good Luck..

  • Thats why you get a V1

  • as far as i know mine is the only one with this glitch

  • nah i had this exact one a year ago and mine did the same thing sometime..i turned off POP detection because of it..i could get the laser to go off if i shot my remote to my radio at it sometimes lol. But yeah..now all mine says is "need service" and doesn't work. So a $350 radar dector sits unused in my closet for over a year now...psh

  • damn that sucks, i actually just turned off the LSR band and kept the POP band, and now its fine

  • Some vehicles loud noises can set off x50s laser alert and x50s are known to false bad on POP. Theres even a vid on here somewhere it shows someone shooting instant on radar at it and it reporting it as pop 9/10 times. Plus there's no such thing as a POP reliable detector even though theres plenty of detectors that are capable of detecting POP so I would suggest turning POP off and seeing if its at all possible to quiet your vehicles noise so you could turn laser back on

  • By default when i first got the radar POP was off and LSR on, problem started occurring before the POP band was even turned on, i actually turned POP on in the first place, in hopes it would fix the problem =/ *shrug*

  • well POP was on in this vid. and falsed to one of the many things that can trigger a POP alert on a detector, (not exactly sure what it was in this vid) but theres more laser alerts on here...still though, turn POP off, it will dramaticaly cut down your falses...if you still get a bunch of lasers after that its because of your vehicle. what do you have like a truck with a v8?

  • Nah, its an inline 6 engine, IS300
