@mcycleserv I am happy that you get some usable info and some entertainment too. That is what I am always trying to accomplish in my videos. Thanks again.
@mcycleserv Really doesn't sound like you need all the small details of moving and living in Thailand or the community of like minded people who are going to make a big leap in their life and move over to a different culture and are looking for like minded people who share the same journey! But you could have just watched the video on the sales page and probably figured that out.
PI is not as safe. You need to watch your belongings more. That goes to women as well. Police with machine guns. But you can approach them, have a good chat, laugh and even get a hug. PI is more open society. Beaches are quieter and more natural, no noisy long-tail boats, or stupid firecrackers. Yes, more seafood in PI. Life is cheaper. English everywhere. You can stay in PI whole year without any stupid visa run. For me PI wins vs Thailand.
@michaelpyra PHILIPPINES: VISITOR VISA. On arrival you’ll be granted a 21 day visa.renewed for another 38 days at an immigration office. Further 59 day extensions can extend your stay up up to sixteen months. BALIKBAYAN VISA. The foreign spouse and minor children of a Philippine citizen qualify for a special one year balikbayan visa. RETIREE VISA Must have a pension of more than $800 per month AND have $10,000 to leave invested in a Philippine bank. Easier????
Tourist dont know what living in Thailand is. Farang will always be farang here. You will never be home in Thailand, no matter how long you stay here. You will never get any rights in Thailand ! You can never own a property in your name and will never be allowed to work, and you have to report to the Immigration at least once a year. All that even if you live here for 50 years and are married to a Thai and have kids. Farang is only allowed to spend money here. Visit -yes. Live here -no way.
@michaelpyra I agree with what you say and say thank God for the rules and regulations. If they weren't in place we would have way too many people here that just like to bitch and complain. This way it keeps the prices low and it won't turn into a bad place. Let me know where it is a nice place to live where anybody can stay regardless of how much money they have indefinitely.
Hey JC, what do you think, as far as, the difference between Thai & Filipino women. Do you find that one is friendlier than the other, more sincere, etc. I'm don't drink and hang out at bars or go to strip clubs. I think I prefer Buddhist women over other women, too!!!! My first trip to SE Asia came down to Thailand and the Philippines and I'm like you, I think I prefer Thailand!!!!
it sounds like your opinion is that a foreign woman would find herself socially isolated in thailand. my understanding of thailand / thai culture is a bit superficial at this point. many things are attractive to me, but the sex industry (& the fact that the government there doesn't do something to make other employment more available to women) and the foreign men who go to thailand for the prostitution are all huge turn offs to me. as a feminist this would be difficult for me. your opinion?
@lamaddussa If all that was true then I would agree. Unfortunately you have the same view so many people have because of the media representation of Thailand. The majority of the population have work. The prostitution for the most part is a choice.
@retirecheapjc I don't want to get into a debate with viewers over these issues so I will only say,"Hmm.. work all day at a travel desk or in a restaurant for 150 Baht or go out to eat, stay in a hotel, eat a better meal and get paid at least 4 times the wage." NOTE I am not talking about unwilling people forced into this which is about 1% of this demographic. And yes I will admit that men cannot legally get their ego stroked or affection at home so they come here.
my understanding is that women from poorer rural families have few other prospects for supporting their families. all choices take place within contexts. economic contexts, psychological contexts, social contexts. prostitution is a psychologically destructive & physical dangerous "choice" of livelihood. the dynamics which come together to create the massive sex industry in thailand are far from benign. yes there may be other work available, but offering unrealistically low wages
that's great. i'm all for living simply, not getting sucked into the pathological sex trade (or materialism). but obviously many women in thailand do NOT have realistic ways to support their families. prostitution isn't a nonchalant choice people make. the massive sex industry thailand is so famous for is not some chance coincidence. there is something very wrong in both the thai & world economies &cultures that creates a situation of mass prostitution mass foreign consumption.
you think i believe everything the media tells me? no offense, but your perception skills are a little off. do you think that it's only in thailand that women have to deal with an onslaught of sexual harassment & degradation? advertising via sex in the west is just another more subtle example of that phenomenon. & in both instances there will be women who will see a way to benefit from that dynamic & will participate, as pathological & psychologically unhealthy as that may be ->
1 of the basic tools of the prostitution trade is acting - convincing the customer that u actually want the vile & repulsive experience you are undertaking for the money, & prostitutes commonly require massive alcohol or drug use to suppress the repulsion, feelings of degradation & trauma. u really think such a large population of women happily prostitute 2 support their families because they like it? you seem 2 have bought the product these ladies are selling, as johns like 2 do
@lamaddussa "unrealistically low wages" 90% of Thais live a more happy and fulfilled lifestyle off these "unrealistically low wages" and realize that happiness doesn't come from the material things they can afford. Something the world now is experiencing and hopefully will understand and embrace.
@lamaddussa Even though I do not share your point of view I appreciate your opinions. These girls could also live off these "unrealistically low wages" too but choose not to. I can tell from your comments you actually believe all the information that is passed on through the media. And that's OK. As I always say, "There's always an option!" Massive..hmmm?? Like the massive advertising using sex to sell products in the West? It's all human behavior.
@lamaddussa Farmers in Thailand R NOT RICH. If kids of farmers want to make $ they can find work rather easily in any of the countless industries dotting the country. $300 a month@ a factory.May not sound like much, but IT IS ENOUGH to live acceptably
.-$40 studio apart(NOT roach infested ghetto!)
-$100 3meals a day eating out! Under $200 for food and rent! MANY companies in offer free-subsidized RENT and-or FOOD.
@lamaddussaThailand IS NOT some poor 3rd world nation where poor women are forced to work in bars!If u ask Thais, rich or po0r,whether they would like to VISIT another nation, they will usully say YES.If you ask them if they would like to IMMIGRATE to the west,OVERWHELMING MAJORITY will say NO.I have NEVER,EVER met a Thai who said they wanted to IMMIGRATE to the west! I live in a VERY DIVERSE city.600,000 chinese, 400, 000 indians, 500 000 italians, 250 000 philipinos only 3,000THAIS!
The bar scene IS NOT ALL GLITTER AND GOOD TIMES. There is a dark side, but not nearly the way the media makes it out to be. There IS TRAFFICING of WOMEN fromBURMA and EASTERN EUROPE,but the scene is a fraction of the entire industry.
@retirecheapjc I agree. Many of the Thai bar girls are from poorer Issan province.I know of a few who were DIRECTED by their parents to move to BKK to make some bhat! Many of these girls working the bars make rather good cash! One problem is that they tend to have bad habits like gambling or taking yaba.Even if they dont have such vices, they are mostly not good with handling cash, thus it gets spent as quickly as it is made.LIVABLE wages for women is readily available in Thailand.
@keenok100 Well said. If they only knew how to use the money wisely they could get out of this business and have their own. They make so much more than the average office worker.
Hi. I'm Thai living US California here for over 30 years. I just when to Thailand 2008 and got my Thai ID for very first time. And I still living with US green card since I was 8 years old. now 43. US getting harder to make good living. I don't even know much my country Thailand, I wanted to live there and try it for a year to see that I could accept the changes. I watch all your video in youtube. Make me think hard take my family moving back. but wife working kids in school.
My strategy to get Thai prices was to get married to a Thai girl. But we ended up back in the USA......16 years and 4 kids ago. We are planning to go back when the water drops.
@haitipi Yikes!! That didn't work out as planned! But I am sure you have a great family. Give the water a few more weks. The dry season has been in full swing and it shouldn't take much longer.
Hey JC, I was lucky enough to visit thailand for the first time when i was 17. Since then i have been thinking up ways i can earn a living/live in thailand. At first i was aiming at management/hospitality but i now know that internet business is the best way to go. Im now 19 and have just start building websites and setting up adsense, paypal etc. I have to admit mongering is a massive part of the reason i wanna live there. I wouldent recormend going with a wife at all lol.Gonna subscribe,Pulse
@PulseWithLife Hey Pulse. You have the right idea. Start early. Internet income is the way to go. Educate yourself. It has never been a better time to do this kind of work. I will e sharing thoughts and strategies about this topic soon.
@zakunster1 Ha! You are very funny. I like that. I think a lot of people should be counting down the time until they can bail. Things are going to get worse for sure. I am going to post a video soon about that. Thanks for your comments. It makes the work worth it.
Have to resist the temptation of the Thai ladies? :) Can do that for probably about five minutes.
I would say that the Philippines is more dangerous than Thailand. You say that the American society is fear based and I agree, but I also read about and know of so many murders of westerners in the Pi. Some real butchery. Peace, Lancer
Met a Buddhist maintenance man while staying at the Hilton in St.Louis last year.He is married to a Thai and we talked about Thailand and Buddhism after he fixed the toilet. He mentioned to me that if you have a shot of cheap whiskey every morning that would help with any digestion problems you might get from the street food. Also talked about taking ginger to help to keep from getting sick. What's your opinion on the subject?
@jonesingforsilver As for the ginger, I agree. It has many health benefits and we use it a lot in the Thai cuisine. But for the cheap Thai whiskey, just go ahead and have a shot of lighter fluid every morning. It's about the same thing. Many people have liver damage from the stuff. My wife's mom died from liver failure caused by the "laow" or whiskey.
@jonesingforsilver Contrary to what you might think. My advice is to stay away from the "chain restaurants". The reason is that the small restaurants and vendors don't have big walk-in coolers so they go to the market everyday and buy fresh food. When it runs out that's it. Very little if any is left over for the next day and it's kept on ice. The only times I have gotten sick is at the chain restaurants. The strategy for the small restaurants is just look for for a lot of Thais eating there.
@jonesingforsilver Drink bottled water and make sure when you brush your teeth you don't swallow any water. Eat where you see a lot of people eating. But not at chain restaurants. More people means fresher food. Most ice these days is fine.
Congrats JC, one of your best videos to date. Most, if not all of what you said is spot on. Your Thailand to Philippines comparison was good.
