dude, great tone man!! i have the same amp rotting away in my mom's basement. never knew it was that capable, but in ur hands even a pignose 5watter would sound good . . .
Good demo. That is one cool sounding little piggy. If you like more volume and a 5e3 sound, try the piggy-in-a-box plugged into a 1x12" closed back cabinet with a weak watt alnico speaker. It will put the 7-100 to shame in an outdoor environment.
My very first amplifier was one of these little puppies. One of the neat things about em is if you have a friend with you when playing through it you can unsnap the catch and have them open and close the amp and it gives you a sort of wah wah sound. Kinda cool.
im going to do a video response demonstrating the different sounds of the pignose with a strat and my maton mastersound 503 which has dual humbuckers. the difference is quite evident.
You're right man, the differnece is huge between simple coil and humbuckers.
Now I've got mine Pignose and with Humbuckers the sound is more fat and distored. I like it so. Where I'm much impressed it's with my electro accoustic, the sound is clear and with eq I can get a good OD.
Very good little practise amp !!!
Mr Hilbert, you "jammin' in the backyard" is a reference !!!
I should also have added that if you run a Smokey into a Pignose it screams! kind of like what you got with the boost from the EQ only much more dramatic. Lots of fun!
i got a pig nose a while ago they can be pretty fun. may i ask what guitar is that youa re using i could not see the brightness shined to much on it for (me) to decrypt it lol nice playing to man good demo
I used to think SS sounded as good as tubes. Then I got a tube amp and found out just how wrong I was. I still like SS but it's missing that extra roundness to the sound that tubes deliver. The SS's get close(love my pignose and microcube) but still just close.
I can't even remember where or when I got it; that's how long ago it was. But I do remember playing it in Washington Square Park sometime in the early 80s.
you, sir, are awesome!! this video inspired me to get my own pignose, and i love it!! it's especially great with my accoustic with the soundhole pickup.
i keep trying to get better and its really frustrating but seeing people like you keep me motivated and inspired no matter how long it takes to get as half as good. Thank you! your great!
Problem with videos like this is that the player absolutley wails and could make any old piece of junk sound great. Rob Math is the same. You never know if the amp is any good because the playing makes up for any flaws. You're too busy thinking, "Wow, that bend was sweet!"
It wasn't a comment on just this video. When I'm looking for an amp, the guys who wail always sound better than guys who are beginners. Do a search for Epiphone Junior or Vox. A good player can make any junk sound good. Truth.
it doesn't make the tone of the amp sound any better or worse though, just the technicality of the playing.
but you are correct in saying that tone differs from person to person, but that's true of everyone, as a good amount of your tone comes from your fingertips, and everyone's is different
Great Fuzz tone. I don't know why Solid States get such a bad rep, Frank Zappa used this amp for two albums and loads of live performances. There are some online guitar forums where you'll get run off the board for liking anything Solid State, it's a shame.
I know how they sounds, I just don't think they're always necessary and some solid states do a good job of sounding warm. The Pignose is one.
Generally Solid States offer a more "up front" kind of response. There's more of a push pull feel to a tube amp, I can see why that feels amazing to some guitarists, you're dealing with real pow0r now! but really, Solid state has it's uses too.
i've been playin gigs 9 years now, and i've used ss the whole time. i have tube amps, but ss amps are far more consistent and reliable, and i agree, they get a bum rap.
the clean tone of an ss amp is nearly always superior to tube, and you can always add a tube preamp in the mix for dirty, which would never work the other way around.
Tubes actually have a kind of "Lo-Fi" effect which can round off distortion making it more pleasing; but they also colour your tone a great deal. There's a reason the JC120 is so popular. Solid State gives you a more up-front, as is kind of tone.
Tech21 have some of the best sounding distortion tones on their Sansamps. They've got a ridiculous amount of bite you'd probably never get from a tube amp.
randall's solid-state tone is unstoppable as well. i've got three solid state randalls that i'd stack against alot of older marshall jcms as far as dirty tone is concerned, and i know the jcm wouldn't touch them for clean.
i've always been convinced that solid-state just got a bum rap for being the new kid, while tube has been the standard so long, but oh well... cheaper equipment for me, haha
Yeah, people talk about warmth of valves, but I reckon that the Vox Pathfinder (ss) is as warm and rich as anything I've ever heard. Doesn't need an OD pedal, but I'd like to try the valve pedal through my ss Fender, and see if it warms up any. I was thinking of "preamping" with an epi or pignose.
i have a stompbox-sized tube preamp on my pedal board that i use for dirty sounds, and then use that to switch my clean and dirty sounds rather than my amp footswitch. so basically, the dirty channel on my amp doesn't get touched, and sits on clean all the time
ss-amps got a bum rap for being totaly worthless when it comes to getting that bluesy kinda halfdistorted tone, because they simply cant do that(Yet.).
Although i think ss-amps are far superior when it comes to totaly clean sounds, and super distorted sounds, they have a punchier compression and almost a gate feel to it, unlike tubes that usualy starts to get either rumbly or loose all attack when "superdistorted".
yea, personally i don't see why all "heavy" players don't play SS. i mean really, i used to be a dumbass who played strictly tubes, but only until i realized that tubes literally sound like bowels flapping when you crank them up beyond their peak, which is where alot of the better SS amps really have a fantastic sound
I got a pignose 7-100 portable amplifier recently and notice the cuts or tears in the brown leather covering on both the bottom and top of the amp.Did yours have these cuts on it also?Customer service at pignose says they all do.I am not so sure.
Are you talking about the places where the leather is cut to fit around the metal parts? That's natural - you have to cut the leather to the correct shape if you want it to fit snugly around a square surface like that. Mine looks the same.
I just got one of these amps. Can I use one of those mutli voltage power cords ,set it to the correct voltage,to power this thing without damaginf it?Or do I have to use a pignose power cord?
I lost the original power cord, so I got one that has all these different endings, and one of them fits, but I think it buzzes a little. Of course, now the new ones might not buzz. It's worth a try.

A lot of people says that the Pignose sounds good only with single coils. What do you think ?
I know that P90 are single coils. But you are the only one on You Tube who don't use it with strat or tele. !
Do you know how it sounds with an ES335 for example ?
By the way, you make that little amp sounds very tastefull !

You are so right. But SS amps don't require the constant maintenance that tube amps do, and non-musicians probably can't tell the difference.

I agree. I forgot to mention that my Pignose is probably as old as yours. I remember it being at my Grandfather's back in about 1976.

not really, you can clearly determine even through the guys wailing that the amp sounds great, at least when the fuzz is disengaged.
