The latter half of this upload (where the audio is clear and full) is, I think, a recording the Boston Pops did under Williams in the late 80s - I seem to remember a live version of it...and it is more a "variations on themes from" rather than the music as it appeared in the film. But WHERE does the first half come from...it sounds like it's from vinyl...is it possible?
@Autostade67 The music in the second part of this video is from an album called 'The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration' by the Boston Pops. The rest of the music is from a bootleg soundtrack album of 'The Sugarland Express'. I think all the audo might be ripped from a laserdisc or DVD version of the film, explaining the bad quality.
Also: it never ceases to amaze me that this film is not held higher in the Spielberg canon... it should be in the top five. This, more than many of his works, shows his command of the camera and sensitivity to story. He gets a drop dead performance out of Hawn and subtly but lightly plays on the cults that develop around outlaws. Nothing is this is forced.
I didn't know this was ever even released as a soundtrack...yes...should be re-released along with his other jazzy/radical scores from the early days: "The Long Goodbye" which is a single song repeated over and over in every possible musical style, "Cinderella Liberty" (more Toots and some VERY SWEET Fender Rhodes electric piano), and his prog-jazz for Altman's images.
John Williams' best work, in my opinion. It sounds a little more unconventional, due to the heavy of regional instruments, and with the exception of the violin usage, sounds unlike anything he's ever done.

William Atherton, who played Clovis, also played the "dickless" EPA agent in 'Ghostbusters'!

Sugar Land hasn't changed at all. Awesome. Had no idea Goldie was here once.

@Yesdnyl99 Actually it has grown into a huge suburban area unlike the small hick town of the film.
