saskia post, or jessica?, the burn girl, who married dr dan, came to see a flat i had for rent in st kilda, obviously most of the cast had doomed careers after this. maybe wendy hughes knocked it back for a reason?
@leoenutube I think because it was too expensive for an Australian network (as opposed to the American channels, who were throwing lavish spending budgets at "Return to Eden's" American counterparts like "Dynasty," "Dallas," and "Falcon Crest), and the mediocre ratings simply couldn't justify keeping such a big budget soap on the air. Shame, though, I felt the writing, acting, and cinematography was much better here than on the American primetime soaps.
@leoenutube as emlodik says - the budget 2nd, but 1st, lacklustre ratings killed it off - so blame the OZ public. obviously it was planned, but canned, and the 5 min re shoot ending, was so it could be on sold to a bigger world wide market - where it rated better i believe
@gas6666 cont'd - ...cos the more that take a stand to waife, the better - but less work- tho "mallory's" bulimia has aged her, like the renee Z crowd - will prob die younger than size 14 stars from the golden age of hollywood
Peta Toppano was brilliant as camp-vamp Jilly Stewart, an all out b*tch who could have given Alexis Carrington a run for her money any day of the week. One of the best Australian shows ever shown on British tv (Cell Block H the same). They could have made a second series just for us!
its so ironic back in 1986..this scored massive ratings on ITV in the UK..had this been the case now..chances are they would have put money into keeping it going.
Pity they didnt get a 1 off special to end the show properly like Dynasty and Dallas.
What a ridiculous ending; they should have just renewed the show for another series of episodes to provide a more proper conclusion. BTW, Chris looks a lot like Oliver Reed (sober).
Yes I to love Peta. She is gorgeous. Her carachter Jilly dangerous but at the same time time exciting. If the series had proved such a big hit in the UK, then why did ITV (who screened it) not step in and have another series filmed? A great shame as there would have been plenty of material and great storey lines for a future run. Sadly some TV networks and producers get very cold feet about ratings, without thinking long-term.
@trackside77 Return to eden is being shown on CBS Drama sky channel 149 8pm weeknights,,, dont suppose you know when the mini series was shown in the uk 1st time round?
I get the impression with the Sky guide info, as it has S1 on the mini series text box that they will show both the mini-series and the twenty two part sequel series. Fingers crossed!
I love both of them, but have a soft spot for the series. All the characters seem to gel very well together, and the actors are all top notch too, it's very well cast.
Hi! I know from TV only this "lost finale" but which is the original ending of this movie? You wrote here about cliffhanger scene but I know this without the scene...Thanks for your answer.
The original ending has Stephanie standing at the top of the stairs with the gun in her hand and Jilly shouting to everyone that she saw Stephanie shoot Jake.
The Mini Series is GREAT. Peta T and Rebecca G are briiliant. Can't believe this did not have the success to have a second series.
I actually prefer the cliffhanging finale opposed to a super-quick 5 minute wrap up resolution, but I really appreciate your posting so I could see it. Thank you.
Jilly slept with Dan? Did she drug him? I thought he was brighter than that. I live in the USA so I can't find a place to order the mini series and the 1986 22 parts
Do you happen to know which store I can order both the miniseries in 1983 and the rest on RTE in 1986, i.e., Best Buy, Barnes & Nobles, etc. In the meantime, it would be wonderful if Netflix and/or Blockbuster would carry Return To Eden (1983 & 1986).
Again, I sincerely thank everyone. Continue enjoying these clips!
I am serious about trying to get Return To Eden on SoapNet. Please let me know if you are interested and would like to help. If anyone in the USA has Return To Eden both the 1983 miniseries and the remainder which started in 1986 on DVD or VHS would you please let me know how I can obtain them? I explained about my two (2) DVD Players, but I also think that the TVs have to be able to play PAL vs. NTSC? Do you have the ISBN numbers?
We were also fans of Dynasty and Knots Landing. Peta's character of Jilly Stewart made Alexis played by Joan Collins and Abby played by Donna Mills seem like they were angles. Jilly was just pure evil.
Ever since, this awesome show my mom will always check any swimming pool before going in because of what happened. It is very similar to not wanting to take a shower after watching the movie Psycho. Interesting information to add is that the swimming pools where we live are saltwater so this freaks her out even more.
I remember I was living in Germany and the miniseries came on US Air force Channel and both my mom and I were hooked. We really want to get both the miniseries which began in 1983 and the rest which began again in 1987.
Is it possible that those who find the clips that are not in English (this clip was in English) could find them in this language or translate it for those who do not speak French or Spanish? This would be very helpful. Thank you.
I have two DVD Players. One, is just a Sony DVD player in the front it has the following: CD/DVD Player DVP-S360. The second, is a Polaroid DVD Player/HiFi VCR Combo-2000. Does anyone know if Blockbuster or Netflix has both? Does anyone else in the USA have both? Can Return To Eden (both - 1983 & 1986) be found on the Internet and Downloaded?
I am not sure how to obtain both DVD's or even VHS Tapes that will play here in the USA because we don't use PAL. Also, I am not sure which region the USA is in, but I know that it isn't the region that it needs to be in order Return To Eden (1986) and Return To Eden (1968) play. I looked at the back of my DVD Players and it doesn't mention any region or number in the backs.
I live in S., CA in the USA and I want to buy both the mini series that started in 1983 and then the remainder of this Soap Opera which stared in 1986.
I remember watching the ending when I was a kid-I used to love the show! Was glad they wrapped it all up rather than left it with an open ending-if only they'd made more-it was total camp!
I was rather miffed that they didn't include the conclusion on the DVD release-very naughty!!
i've seen the ending to the series. But i can't remember the beginning. Would anyone still happen to have that? It's great to see again though. Fab series
I only ever used to watch this melodramtic crap to ogle the ravishingly gorgeous redhead Peta Toppano. If ever any woman caused me to "sport wood", she certainly did.
I loved both the mini-series and the 22 episodes of this show. I was so pissed when they took it off air after the cliff-hanger episode. These scenes were originally only shown in Eastern Europe. Thanks for posting. Now I will head off to JB-HIFI and buy the whole 22 episodes.
You're a STAR for posting this on mate! - VERY MUCH appreciated and does anyhone know where we can get the MINI SERIES DVD from? (not the 22 part one)...
Thanks mate but I managed to track down the mini series on VHS... Just waiting for it to come thru from the US, again, THANK YOU sooooooo much for posting this ending!
For everyone who wants the dvd boxset try ebay thats where I got mine. Peta's hair's different as this scene was filmed a few years later, she's naturally black, it was dyed in Return to Eden.
If you're after the DVD boxsets of Return to Eden, go to ebay and type the shows name in the search engine box, it should bring up a list of sellers. Good luck.
I remember Return to Eden so well, it was camper than a row of pink tents on Christmas morning. How funny that Dennis thought to pop in for a haircut on the way to get his mother out a jail! :-)
@gas6666 They were better off not mentioning it, the audience wouldn't have notice such a minor continuity flub if the filmmakers didn't bring so much attention to it.
@gas6666 eah, they obviously had very little to work with and virtually no time to do this. I wish I could go back in time and give them money for a whole extra episode or two to wrap things up, LOL! By the way, this ending is finally available on DVD if you're willing to shell out for the pricey remastered DVD set from either Holland or Sweden. (I recommend Holland, because it's not broken up into various volumes, so you end up saving money.)
Respond to this video...also, i hear that Reb Gill was nice to work with. The Asian actor guy on the movie, "the man from Hongkong", was a real "kunt" to her. The producer or director said she was so lovely and he was like that. Like ONJ, shes pretty down to earth and both care about the planet more than just fame and $
This was filmed after the series was cancelled because they realised they couldn't sell the worldwide syndication rights to the season because the show ended on a cliffhanger which had no resolution. Several of the cast were asked back to film a few scenes which tied up some of the main plot elements. Incidentally this new conclusion was never seen in Australia, only in Europe, which is why it's left off the Australian Box Set!
I just bought the box set when in sydney. This was shown the the UK in the 80s and was a camp hit. What a great clip! was it filmed at the same time as the others? different hair etc. Peta Topanno rules!

Chris: "You mean-if i dont kill you?"
D: "Why would u bother with the hair,if u wanted to do that?"
C: "God knows-i thought about it enough!"
Atleast,it was funny when D said to Steph:"Im never going 2that barber again"
i guess to wrap it up with only 4 main cast in 5 mins-wasnt too bad
