@Cystlib Nothing, it's just really irrelevant. Why talk about a lame, predictable fame mongerer when you could be listening to some of the best post-awesomeness ever.
@coolstorybrooooooo It just looks irrelevant because that comment was only a fraction of the whole conversation. But anyway, let's just enjoy the song. 'Cause that's why we're here, aren't we?
Been listening to alot of this style lately and what really impresses me is how the drummer is able to make meaningful contributions to the 'voice' while not overpowering the vibe
Saw Russian Circles at the Kings Arms last nite. They were stupendous. Such a muscular sound for a three piece. The support bands were Arc of Ascent and jakob. Both mighty bands - from New Zealand!
this year i went to an awesome camp, and one of my friends showed me this band on his ipod on the 2 hour bus ride, then later in the 10 days we stayed there, he brought out a awesome lazer machine that he built over the year out of snes and nes parts that makes different designs, so at the open mic that we had, he whiped out the machine, that usualy costs a few hundred bucks, he did a spine chilling performance and he played THIS band to it
i just looked it up and asking alexandria was founded in 2008. this song came out in 2006. so don't say that a band is unoriginal because they knocked off an unoriginal bands rhythms even though that band didnt even exist when this song was written

Got to try anyways. For an interest check out from the video responses our band Dalis song Woods. Its old live demo made in rush for an interview we had. Just when we got things rolling our band member had to go to army and everyone had stuff going here and there. even though the quality it gives a hint of the bands hard and somewhat simple sound. now were among the living again and will blow the hell off the earth
I actually listened to this again recently and i must say... pretty good, though they stole many of their polyrhythms from asking alexandria, so not exactly original, and having seen a live video of them, their guitarist has used the same rig as Jake Pitts from Black Veil Brides, but he should use orange as they give a better high end. Also, they dont really vary their songs dynamics enough, some light/dark would be good, just take a lesson from attack attack!
are you kidding dude? russian circles stealing from a generic band like asking alaxandria, really? really really? russian circles learning something from attack attack! dude, i'm pretty sure this song is older than the band asking alaxandria and their middle school fan base
are you kidding dude? russian circles stealing from a generic band like asking alaxandria, really? really really? russian circles learning something from attack attack! dude, i'm pretty sure this song is older than the band asking alaxandria and their middle school fan base
@theweegit LMFAO YOUR TELLING RUSSIAN CIRCLES TO TAKE A LESSON FROM FUCKING ATTACK ATTACK. HOLY SHIT! OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD.......
@theweegit This song was released in 2006 and Asking Alexandria were formed in 2008 theres no way that they could have stolen their polyrhythms unless they had a time machine. Get your facts right!
@TheTomWIlliams They're playing together in my hometown in a month. I might go there for R.C. but will do my best to avoid Boris. R.C. makes music with emotions, Boris is just annoying noise. Don't see the resemblance at all between the bands. I wish R.C. played with Rosetta instead, or maybe Miserere Luminis.
@Trollkatt uh ohh Boris isn't the kind of band you can make such a sweeping statement about, they have plenty of albums that aren't experimental noise rock, check out heavy rocks
I like Pelican. Then I found this. I like this too. Now I need to buy more albums. Now I need more money for more music. Now I need another job for more money for more music.
@generalREDOSKI Are you in a band? If you are then you would know just how hard it is to make actual money off your music. You can't make a living with it.
Music like this gives me a profound increase in spiritual energy, empathy, euphoria, and appreciation for being alive. Russian Circles, God is an Astronaut, Emanicpator, Red Sparrowes, and so many others. And not only post-rock but other genres such as trance, hiphop, etc. Music is one of the keys to feeling human, and I can't imagine ever being without it. Me and the art of sound have become one, forever.
@lukyganesh I recommend you take a look at ISIS if you already haven't. They're like a very heavy version of Russian Circles. Same kind of progressive music.
Two good examples would be 'Ghost Key' and 'So Did We'
would you agree that the massive compression when heavy parts brutally come in (like 1:15 and many others), should NOT be? everytime i wait for them to come, i feel the need to turn up the volume on those passages.. :))
@noshit2 it's not a matter of compression really...I'm fairly sure that what you describe happens due to youtube transcoding..it sounds like low/high pass filtering that's chopping off waveform peaks..so it sounds like it's lacking dynamic range much like being overly compressed.. the reason I know this/can distringuish it is because it has happened on one of my own hard techno tracks that has no compression at all you can listen to it here and compare(youtube/watch?v=zFnlT3LNMLA)
@DrnTT thx 4 that. strong stuff there also! ;) do you have the CD version of Carpe? because mine seems to sound very similar to the youtube one.. same phenomenon.. :|
@noshit2 no I actually don't..I just have a huge background on sound technology and sound design and what I do hear is very similar to my case but if your cd version sounds identical I may as well be mistaken:) could you rip it and upload it from flac, or other lossless format or manual encoding with high/low pass filtering disabled so we can compare? I'm really interested because I think youtube transcoding is actually crippling a lot of tracks..glad you liked my track:) btw you didn't mention
What a killer sound for a 3 piece, they kill it! love russian circles. Saw them with coheed and got hooked, live show is awesome watching him work the loop effects.
What's with all this talk of listening to different types of music which are more "manly"? Hell, I listen to this and MDM and ABBA for fucks sake! Styles of music do not dictate anything. Unless you listen to Lil Wayne, then i can make an exception...
@cathartic555 No offense man, but I think ABBA were just as untalented as Lil Wayne. They were in the 80s what Lady Gaga is now. Mainstream, not that talented, poppy and easy-to-listen.
@Cystlib Lady gaga has talent. A lot of it. Just because her music`s mainstream that doesn`t mean she`s not talented. And i`m not defending lady gaga or something, i`m just saying. You should recognize talent when you here it. Have you heard her song "speechless" live ? Just listen, you will change your mind.
@MrSatanochio She sure has talent. The problem is she uses her talent for poppy, lineair and pretty unoriginal songs, falling into repetition after several songs and using autotune and stuff. Also her Madonna-way of getting attention by making extravagant music videos and wearing extravagant clothing isn't (imo) the way an artist should achieve and maintain publicity, it should be through the songs they make.
@cathartic555 Or Justin Bieber for that matter lol. But kidding aside, I listen to all sorts of music and I never thought twice about whether it was manly. I'm mostly an indie junkie though so I have a broad taste for music. One of my favorite bands is Battles. Have you heard of them?
@cathartic555 Yeah I can run some songs of theirs past you. Battles is an experimental rock group from New York. They have two albums out thus far. The first is called Mirrored and the second, which just came out last month, is called Gloss Drop. Probably their most popular song off of Mirrored is 'Atlas' which I think was featured in a video game. And the song 'Ice Cream' off of Gloss Drop, is becoming a hit. They're a bit out there and might not be for everyone. But I think they're awesome.
@richd506 Have you heard of More Than Conquerors? They're Indie, a local band from my area...them, No Age and Interpol are about the only Indie bands I know. But I love Indie...any recommendations for me? The more melancholic the better.
I hate to break it to you Hivmannen2000, but this band doesn't have their "own" genre. Be aware that I am not dissing the band, I love them. all I'm saying is that this band is instrumental post-metal, which a number of bands have done already. That being said, I fucking love this band!
Who gives a fuck what the genre is? Just go to a single Russian Circles show and listen to them perform this song and all the genre in your blood will be immediately cleansed via joyous vomit
@Irishinobi145 calm down. artist / song names are convenient, nobody said those aren't. a genre name however can be restricting. moshsocks original comment about genres probably was referring to people needing to classify everything beyond a basic genre: this is post-rock (or post-metal), more than that can't be said, yet the media will try anyway, thus potentially killing the music by limiting it to narrowly defined subgenres.
@popetaytv Hey, I heard some guy is selling just that, a little bit out of town at some crossroad or other. You don't even have to bring a pen to sign the contract. Just ask for Louis Ferre... or something like that.
@popetaytv Trust me they have to work at it as hard as any other student. I've talked with them many times and they're always taking lessons of some kind or another.
@moshsocks and while we're at it, we can stop naming songs and artists can become completely anonymous. we'll just never know who did what, and not be able to look music up online... or anywhere. music has a name for the same reason you have a name. "what was that one really cool band with the guitars? like the... beatles or something?" ---"no. music doesn't have names."--- "aw i just really wanted to find some of their work"--- "suck it"
@moshsocks Without genre's how would we find stuff like this... I want "Experimental Psychedelic Progressive Hard Rock" and not shit like Justin Bieber. Genre's help find more music not kill it...
All their music is someone, maybe the guitarist jamming FREE time, improvising with riffs that flow from one to another and he taped the whole thing and orchestrated it to what you hear now. That's exactly what I do when I'm buzzed or just waking up in the morning with fresh ideas in my head. It's cool that a band could capture all their ideas and put pieces of music together like this. It's pretty smiliar to what my last band used to do when we improv jammed also.
I was introduced to the Album Leaf and Explosions in the Sky, which led to Sigur Ros.... I wanted more so I searched some stuff and found these guys...... this is unbelievably great. I had no idea this was such a huge genre. Anyone want to send me some of their albums?
I'm here because somebody made a joke about band names on a Circles video.
I have no regrets.

The beginning kinda reminds me of Inertiatic ESP by Mars Volta. Probably a coincidence though, the rest of the song is totally unique :)

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but she because it's the first time you've heard something of this genre that doesn't mean they created it.

@Irishinobi145 in fact, why not stop with shitty names and just appreciate it for what it is? it doesn't need a name, it's just music.
moshsocks 1 year ago 2
