@tre1120 hey there, I am not originally a banjo player, but I did learn a few licks when I was 16. Its open G banjo tuning, so I could use a couple of those licks plus a few more I made up. sorta also inspired by some of those Celtic fingerstyle players, though I am playing with a pick.
@tre1120 gosh, Its hard to explain how to play this except to say, its not hard. Tune it like a banjo in open G, capo to the 5th or whatever key to sing, and then follow my fingers on the video. Its really pretty easy. If it wasn't I couldn't play it. If you come over, I will give you a lesson on it. I give guitar lessons.
That Arkansas Traveler is one lucky guy. He also must be a very special person to have inspired you to write such great lyrics for. To have been illuminated and not see the light that is before you is truly a sad thing.
First time I've ever heard the words to Arkansas Traveler. I doubt , after hearing your rendition, that I'll want to listen to anyone else's. And to be able to do it with such ease and passion from a cozy chair speaks volumes to your talents as a singer and musician. Kudos.
Thanks Will, what a lovely version. I really would like to perform this song, but I can't find the words. You are a wonderfull singer. Welcome to Finland! Esa
hi, sorry, i have not written out tabs to this yet. I need to though, cause there have been alot of inquiries. The best I can do is give you a lesson on how to play it. its not hard, if I can do it, you can too. I would like to put out a songbook sometime soon on the most popular songs. thanks for asking...
After hearing this, I feel so relaxed... thanks Wil. You look like my pastor's daughter I knew in high school days in Muhlenburg County, Kentucky. I had a crush on her... : )
my dad plays piano. We had instruments laying around, and everybody plays alittle, but I was the only one who took some lessons and got sort of serious about playing out.
hey there, glad you like it. I don't have it on a cd yet. It'll be on the next one I guess. I don't know if it will be just me, or me and one or two others. Depends on how bold I feel.... I guess if you are just desperate, I could record something real quick on my computer and send.
Excellent.....Have you ever performed on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour out of Lexington KY? You and your group are very very good and it would be great "worldwide" exposure. I have a few of your CD's and enjoy them almost daily. God Bless you and your career sweetheart.......James
I'm sorry Wil....I'll be keeping an eye on your tour schedule for it though. I live in Michigan and I hope you'll get this way soon. If you do booked for Woodsongs I'll be coming down for that for sure.....Be blessed.....James
One day the world will get hold of this girl and her career will skyrocket. Just a wonderful inspiring talent. I've found a new love for my Martin Guitar just listening to her. Thank you Miss Maring. You've got my attention. May God richly Bless your future in music. James
I can think of two hit songs right away that used Bach melodys (Traditional). The Toys "A Lover's Concerto" and Procol Harum "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" - Each was as new and as original as this song.
I would say you put a lot of originality to this tune. It has the essence of the old traditional tune, but with your lyrics, phrasing and interpretation it is very original, very beautiful, and one of the most enjoyable pieces on Youtube.*****
Beautiful song Wil. Very relaxing piece of music. One guitar, one talented lady. I would love to have one of your cd's!! Do you have any other songs of just you playing guitar and singing solo?
sorry, Rob, I don't have a cd that is just me alone, I don't feel confident enough about my playing to just play all alone, maybe someday... but you are more than welcome to purchase a cd with me plus some great pickers. I'd appreciate that.
Peaceful feeling, a wonderful voice, here in Spain, we have few opportunities to listen so stupendous singers as you Wil, a geat hug (sorry my english)
I've already commented once on this. It struck me as very nice then. Quite amazing how someone can take an old traditional tune and make something new and fresh of it. It's grown on me and I keep coming back for another listen. Thanks Wil.
Very beautiful simple arrangement. Are the words available on line? I've played this song ala Steve Kaufman for a while, but never heard words to it.... Love it.
Hey Wil, this was a standout for me the other night, mighty pretty in this video. :)

Hi Wil. Happy New Year!
Looked for the lyrics for Arkansas Traveler by you, but could not find them anywhere. Are they written down somewhere that I could get them?
I just figured out the guitar part (except the very last closing part—I'll get that soon). It is a fun tune.
Thanks you for your music.
