I figured out a way to install a mini tub in their cage that can come out easily for cleaning and such. I put small fish tank pebbles in the bottom of it and my 9 week old baby albino seems to like it. I caught her on tape fishing pebbles out of the tub a day later! :)
I wondered how long it takes to get them used to water? I have two new babies, one is probably about 8 weeks the other 6 or 7, I tried putting a tiny bit of water in the tub but left room for them to run around out of the water as well. I put small pebbles (clean of course) in the water as well as a few ice cubes. They both hated it and just tried to climb out of the tub. I wondered if it's a good idea to continue to do this to get them adjusted or not. I've introduced them to it twice now.
@MultiRatgirl: I don't think my rats really like going into the water either, although they don't seem to mind much when fishing treats out of the water.
What I would do it just put a bowl with water and some treats (peas, rattie food, rice, etc.) within range of your rats. If they feel like climbing in they will do so, and else they will just fish the treats out trying not to get wet.
I just got 2 males. they are only babiws. i was planning to get 2 dumbo rats but then when i saw the 2 little boys i imedialtley wanted them. Im gonna put a vid on here later. im experienced with rats but was wondering what age is best to start things like this because they are still very small?
I don't know... I wanna know more about them first. Do you know if females or males are more agressiv? ^^... I want a calm rat and they say that females are more curious that the males and that the males are more the cuddling type ^^...
Yeah, in general boys are more cuddly (lazy), and girls are more adventurous. Neither are agressive towards one another, or towards their slave-owner, assuming they are well socialized. Rats from a breeder or shelter are almost always are, rats from a pet store often aren't. Some females can a bit bitchy to newcomers, but when introduced properly this shouldn't be much of a problem.

Congratulations with your new boys! How old are they now? 6 weeks or so? In that case: Sure, go ahead, enjoy them and yourself. ;-)
Then again, if they are new it's probably best to let them first get used to their new surroundings for a couple of days.
