He's playing on a horse fiddle, it's a main instrument for the throat singing.

@skinkpaj that's not a horse fiddle. it's a Mongolian style erhu. horse fiddles have large, trapezoidal wooden soundboxes and are more of a tenor pitch range.

Uhh... I'm sorry, but I didn't note any of the throat singing. Was it beyond my range of hearing? Maybe my laptop speakers couldn't pick it up.

That looks a lot like a chinese Erhu, I wonder if it's related or one and the same?

it is an erhu but its player is not chinese so i think thats why it sounds different.,
