  • You cannot selectively burn fat anywhere on your body. It's a myth that you can.

    What you CAN do is improve the muscles in a particular area, which will usually tighten it (or in this case make the butt more prominent).

  • There isn't really such a thing as toning...it's either fat burning or muscle building

    So yeah it builds muscle in these areas. You can't exactly choose where weight comes off if it were fat burning, so even if it were 'toning' if I understand your meaning it wouldn't necessarily come from the butt.

  • this is fantastic. i am taking strength training and i have been looking for something that is not machines(we have about 6 and the class is 50 minutes). some of these look excellent to use with small amounts of weight(i'm new to a lot of this).

    Any suggestions on how to activate your glute muscle. I can;t seem to feel them. And how can you activate your glutes whilst squatting, particularly when you arch your back and shove your ass out?

  • Squeeze your butt cheeks together very hard. This isn't really the best form of progressive exercise, but it can give you a sense of where they are. When lying down, pretend you're squatting and pushing something down with your leg and they can fire. Studying an anatomy text can also help in seeing where it is so you know where to 'feel' for it during the exercises.

  • If your glutes are strong, you may not feel them as much as other weaker muscles when doing these exercises. If you do some exercises that de-emphasize glutes, you can make it so the glutes are the weak link in the glute exercises, and this will help you feel them more.
