You are wrong to assume that a raccoon out during the day has rabies!!! Also, looks like this raccoon is after the people because it has been fed by people. It, therefore has lost it's fear of people and wants an easy meal. People also assume rabies when in fact it may have eaten a poisoned rat, therefore dying from poison, or has distemper or parasites (worms).

This is a funny story of true love. My wife and I was fishing one day after we caught a few fish, she said stop at the trash bin so I can get rid of the worms/minnows. As I slowed down next to the bin so she could get out and dump the trash half way out of the car a Raccoon pops out of the bin and makes a mad dash into the woods. Wife let out a scream and jumps back into the car and hands me the bag of trash and says you get rid of it! I think that is what true love is get your husband to do it.

@walyll0 False. This is Stanley Park in Vancouver, where the raccoons are incredibly tame after years and years of sharing this space with humans. They are not rabid, they are not diseased, they are learning to negotiate a terrain that they've been forced to share with people. Yes, they are still wild animals and they will mess you up, but this is not the case of a rabid, sickly animal coming in for an attack; this raccoon simply thinks the small Asian man might have some ice cream to share.

@walyll0 Dreagirl is right. This is the most common misunderstanding about raccoons. This raccoon is not acting rabid at all, in fact he is acting very tame and curious. Raccoons though nocturnal it is NOT uncommon if a mother can not find any food for her young during the night to stay out all day and hunt. The babies HAVE to eat, unlike her who can go a day without eating. My guess, the tourist had something that smelt to good to pass up lol Notice it focused on him and only him.

@WildFlowersCA they tend to focus on one person / thing or whatever when they are rabid, it`s the perfect reason why not to feed the wildlife. cause they dont get rabies shots! and you wont be able to know the difference whether they are rabid or not. I DONT KNOW IF THAT RACCOON IS RABID. but i can say it acts like it could be therefore  "DANGER" save yourself the rabies shots i think its 21 shots in the belly.. or worse death for rabies...

@idellhpcompaq Not necessarily; raccoons can appear during the day if they are hungry, or if they learnt that a source of food (tourists) is available during the day. This one looked healthy (it walked without coordination problems, was able to track the "target" just fine). Of course, rabies can be asymptomatic for some time, but I think this one just tried if the tourist will drop some food if followed long enough :-)

this coon was certainly raised or touched by humans. And it's not unusual for a coon to be out in the daytime if they are hungry.. A coon that doesn't have skills for survival is because they have been fed by humans, and so they will look to other humans for food. this man was not being chased, this coon needed food.
