The percentage of Federal taxes that find their way into the hands of the poor is a small single digit percentage no matter how you slice it. So equating paying taxes to giving to the poor isn't valid. If I want to give to the poor (and I do) any charity does this far more efficiently and effectively than the federal government.

The declaration of independence says that our creator (whomever you think he/she/it is) grants us certain unalienable rights. Freedom, Liberty, Property and the PURSUIT of happiness. well since you have not quoted any breakdown of what people give, that $1100 means it could go anywhere. All I am saying is that conservative people are more likely to join a church and therefore donate to that church. I assume that it would count in whatever total you have accumulated. However, if a secular person does not belong to a church, then he or she spends money on other forms of entertainment or community group and it probably would not count. Thus the bias in the study.
Giving to a church does count in the overall total as well as any other giving, but I am assuming that if you go to church less than once per year you do not give to a church and your money goes elsewhere. Even in that case a non church going conservative gives more than a non church going liberal. Just face it...conservatives give more. I don't think Gallup has a bias in their study on this.

The declaration of independence says that our creator (whomever you think he/she/it is) grants us certain unalienable rights. Freedom, Liberty, Property and the PURSUIT of happiness. My property is mine unless I choose to give it to the poor. It is not the government's to take from anyone. I think Jesus left that up to us as a moral obligation... It is a choice. And through CHARITY it works. The government just taking money and distributing it does not necessarily meet that moral obligation.

These disparities were not due to differences in income. People who said they were "very conservative" gave 4.5% of their income to charity, on average; "conservatives" gave 3.6%; "moderates" gave 3%; "liberals" gave 1.5%; and "very liberal" folks gave 1.2%.
Liberals should not argue conservatives on giving. All the numbers are bad, but they are even worse for them.

But, do charitable contributions count money that people give to churches? If so, that very unfairly screws the statistics to people who attend church more often, which in turn would pad conservative numbers. I agree that people should give more, but I would guess a lot of that money from conservatives go to churches which would lead one to wonder where the church money really gets spent. It's not the same as donating to the American Cancer Society.

well since you have not quoted any breakdown of what people give, that $1100 means it could go anywhere. All I am saying is that conservative people are more likely to join a church and therefore donate to that church. I assume that it would count in whatever total you have accumulated. However, if a secular person does not belong to a church, then he or she spends money on other forms of entertainment or community group and it probably would not count. Thus the bias in the study.

Giving to a church does count in the overall total as well as any other giving, but I am assuming that if you go to church less than once per year you do not give to a church and your money goes elsewhere. Even in that case a non church going conservative gives more than a non church going liberal. Just face it...conservatives give more. I don't think Gallup has a bias in their study on this.

As he was not willing to give up his belongings to follow Christ, he was not willing to subject himself to the being a real disciple. Christ wanted to make this a point for his closest - the apostles. The rest of us are to tithe and give back 10%. Waterboarding of 3 people to save thousands? What pre tell do you object to?

By the way, Red State Christians give more to charities by 500% than do the mega ultra rich on the left. The rich on the left outnumber the rich on the right 10 to 1 (Soros, Rockafeller, Oprah, Gates, Buffet, anyone and almost everyone in Hollywood, 40% of CEOs and 75% of wall street (yes Liberal and rich) and yet the blue state libs only give 2% of their income to charities vs 10% from the working and struggling blue state conservatives.

torture is defined as inflicted severe pain in order to get someone to do/say something. ie forced. When we waterboarded the assholes in gitmo we didn't inflict any pain on them. We flushed the koran down the toilet, we let dogs lick them, we did/showed them things that their culture shuns. We didn't electrocute them, pull out their finger nails, beat them or burn them, I can't wait until they are in with the gen population of a state penn.
