@reaperisgrim Another good question - it works really well on small knives. On my blog at sharpeningtechniques . blogspot . com, you can scroll down the page for some images of a blade that measures .25" x 2" in the sharpener and being sharpened at 17.5 degrees.
I need to know how well the system does on odd shaped blades like the wave shaped blades on kershaws, or maybe a kriss style blade, just anything other than a straight blade, any information you could give would be very helpful. Thank you very much.
@reaperisgrim Thank you for asking. The sharpener works great on curvy knives - I've sharpened dozens and dozens of Kershaws and other recurve blades. The stones are able to rotate on the guide rod, so they follow the contours of the blade easily.
@firehorse01 Depending on the blade width, you can go below 15 degrees. The wider the blade, from spine to edge, the lower the angle you can achieve though 9 degrees is out of reach for almost everything except cleavers. Sometime in December, we should be releasing an attachment that will allow for much finer angles.
Cut the tomato thinner, cut little circles out of the middle of the paper and you'll impress me more. Although, I gotta tell you, this looks like the best sharpening product I've seen yet. Thought about adding smooth steels to the system? Stropping tends to round the edge a bit and a smooth steel burnishes without rounding the profile at all.
@MrMZaccone barbers stropped for centuries, its mircosopicly proven to be good for really shard blades such as razors which are much sharper then your kitchen blade... record a video of you cutting out circles in the paper mr armchair master.
@TheKodiak72 Razors are also much thinner so the rounding of the profile doesn't matter as much. Razors also have to cut with straight pressure and zero draw which is a completely different usage than a knife. As for a video, I'll work on it but don't currently have a camera and am not inclined to buy one just to get you to believe something I know to be a fact.
@Hutzjohn It does great with the Super Steels. We've sharpened pretty much any kind of steel you can think of with great results. The diamonds are very effective and the angle is the same at every stroke so it's very efficient at removing metal and shaping the edge geometry.
Fantastic system. The only metal i came across that it has problems with is M2 or M4 steel which is not all that unusual as the burr will leaf upwards with just about any sharpening system except for oil bathed emery cloth. I usually keep an exacto knife around to shave off the leafing during the sharpening process.
@Painkiller86 It can sharpen some scissors now and will be able to do all of them by the end of the year. The accessory for serrated blades will also be available late this year and will work with the system the way the other stones do.
hi there could you give me any advice HOW OR SOMEONE WHO CAN too Restore a CRKT M16-04Z to the factory blade edge ,ive uploaded a vid of how bad the Blade angle edge is many thanks..Aj
@clayallison1969 It sharpens most everything up to and including machetes. The only things it doesn't do are axes and serrated blades. We have attachments for those coming out later this year.
@iilovebooks Pretty favorably. There is a point at which you can't really get much sharper which is related to the size of the carbides in the steel. Now that I'm getting down to 0.025 microns on my strops, I think I'm starting to get pretty close to that limit. I don't know what final abrasives Murray Carter is using, but his blades and his sharpening are awesome, no doubt about that.
@iilovebooks my cousin sent his knife in to carter, and when he got it back i tested it against this edge. honestly their really isnt much of a difference. if there is a difference, you probably wont find. i actually shaved half of my face with one and the other half with the other. both worked perfectly. i bought the wicked edge, and the ceramic stones, and both sets of leather strops in case you were curious
@clayallison1969 no prob, i absolutely love this sharpener. i co own a taxidermy shop with my dad, and this was the best business investment ive ever made
@blowupuate13 I've got just the thing for serrations and hopefully can bring it out to the market fairly soon. I'll definitely put up a video once it's ready.

@joewest69 Hey, thanks for the note. I'm sorry I pulled those comments. Anyway, I didn't mean to lose them completely and I'm sorry I did. Please don't feel censored in any way, I enjoyed our discussion and would enjoy others.
@decimator22 Yes, that's a good observation. There are two settings on the clamp to compensate for that effect. It doesn't make the angles absolute but it does keep them more consistent.
Wasent Clay Allison a formidable gunfighter in the 1870s who was lightning fast on the draw and just as deadly with a knife.I was wondering if they had Wicked Edge sharpners back then.Seriously.
@rowgun500 Yes, supposedly we're related way back. I'm still trying to put all the puzzle pieces together to see what the exact relationship is. I know that if he'd sharpened his knife with a Wicked Edge before the knife fight down in the grave, he'd have won that battle a lot faster.
As a carpenter and joiner of 45 years I can honestly say I have NEVER wanted, or needed, any fancy gadgets to get a razor sharp edge on any of my tools or knives, be they sporting knives or my chef knives, stainless or carbon blades,Just my trusty India stone and a good strop, and believe it or not for plane irons and chisels the best strop I have is the palm of my hand, and the is it sharp test? is if I can shave the back of my forearm with a little spit, then that`s as sharp as necessary.
@MrChrissy1r The biggest thing about knife sharpening systems such as the edge pro and the wicked edge, is angle consistency, which you can never get freehand, with a waterstone. Such systems guarantee the maintenance of a true 'v' edge; when you freehand on a waterstone, you are essentially convexing the edge, as no person can maintain a perfect angle on each stroke. As for sharpness, a clean face shave is what I consider sharp.
@Jor0r It depends on the blade... for that knife, you're right, it's too fragile. For some of the Japanese blades you can get away with an edge that acute.
A buddy of mine just bought one of these sharpeners, man I love that thing.I normally just use a chefs rod to sharpen with but it just rounds off the edge, this thing recuts the edge as good as factory. Then he used the ceramic and leather on mine and that makes an edge better than factory.Awsome product,
@kaizoebara The handles of the stones are designed with finger grips and the edges of the stones extend outward, protecting you fingers. Of course there is always some risk with a really sharp knife, but if you follow the instructions and use an upward motion, it's very safe.
@clayallison1969 : Hey, lqkow here, I own a Smith&wesson knife and im having trouble sharpening it, can you please tell me how to get my knife as sharp as the one in the vid by just using household items? if you cant please give me the shortcut to the device you used in the videoto sharpen your knife.
Jeeze, you know you're a true knife enthusiast when you own that many sharpeners and your blade is sharp enough to rip a hole between time and space. :D
Looks like a fantastic improvement over the Lanksy system. I especially like the way you can go at it with both hands for the sake of speed, and your system also looks far more comfortable to use.

Hey Clay,
Is it possible to do a Japanese blade @ 9 degrees ?(bevel total = 18deg)
I see it says 15 degrees on the sharpener
If not, would you consider making it possible ?
Excellent design btw
