There was a continous presence of Jews in their land since Roman times who endured Islamic oppression until 1948. 2. im no historian myself but i'd do some research on the crusades, but upon the capture of Jerusalem by the muslims, Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb summoned the Jews and permitted them to resettle in the city of jerusalem in particular the Jews of Ashkelon which was a large Jewish settlement responded his request.

The way the Muslims treated the jews was based on what sect held the seat in the Caliphates capital, some hated them, some tolerated. Exactly like the Christians, who clashed with the Jews severely, and for obvious reasons, during the opening years of the crusades, but basically ignored them later.
