  • The portion of this performance (movemenys 2 and 3) I referred to in the previous comment was uploaded by BMinhauzen on May 26, 2011.

  • Magnificent Zimerman, the sound quality is so good too. Thanks for posting.

  • Brillant!

  • Annie Fischer:

    Non plus ultra

  • Nobody can rival Zimerman. He is perfect. His technique, timing and understanding of the music are quite extraordinary. Only Arrau comes close.

  • Divine moment at 3:42

*schmunzel*

  • Great performance. Zimerman's Beethoven cycle is highly underrated. Having said that, I noticed that the first movement's cadenza seems to be pretty popular these days. Perhaps played more than the composer's own. A lot of other composers have their own cadenza but it's this one I hear the most. Who wrote this particular one? My only criticism is that it is way too long.

  • brtherjohn, this would be the beethoven cadenza in fact!

It's awesome, I was going to write my own, but Beethoven pretty much summed it all up.

  • @jdavis7373 So, there's more than one Beethoven-composed cadenza for this concerto? My old Pollini record is also by Beethoven and is different, and a little shorter, than this one.

  • I'll bet Krystian makes his wife happy...

  • GOOD GOD this is breathtaking

  • 8:50

  • Good! but I like Bohm & Backhaus version better!

  • Das ist abartig schön. Armer Beethoven.

  • That second oboe player must hate his life right now. haha I never saw him play!

  • Absolutely the best version of this work ever! ~ Unbelievable ~

  • Orgasmic!

  • this is beautiful

  • Unfortunately I wasn't there, that day...:-(((

  • Thank you so so much!

  • You know how, throughout life, you go through phases, frames of mind, emotions, etc. Upon reflecting on your own life, right now, I'm sure you would be able to recall a distinct "phase" very easily. Anyway, this song, to me, sounds the the transition between phases. I have always heard it this way.

  • @christopher19894 Sorry, I meant to say "piece". I hope the self-proclaimed musical scholars don't give me heck...

  • is he playing Beethoven's own cadenza?

  • I can't understand.... these concertos are taken from very different sessions? I mean: why 2-3 Zimerman also conducts and in this one he doesn't?

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt In fact the whole idea was Bernstein and Zimerman to make all of the Beethoven Piano concertos and they first did the 3rd, 4th and 5th. Then Bernstein passed away and Zimerman conducted the first and second concertos.
