My father was also on this tour and I've posted a thread about it with pictures called 'Operation Goodwill 1946' on pprune, Aviation History and Nostalgia forum.
My dad John Robinson was on this tour and it was 35 Squadron. Yes, they were supposed to be Tiger Force, but the war ended. My dad flew Lanc TL-R. As far as I know, he never saw this footage. He died in 1988.
My father was on this tour, it was 35 9Madras Presidency) Sqn, not 617 or 9. I believe that 35 was a Tiger Force designated squadron, but as far as I know they were never mobilized as such. 35 Sqn was a pathfinder unit.
@jcstratton84 My husband was on this tour and his good friend was Jack Stratton. His pilot was Bob Newbiggen, my husband 's name was Eddie Farmer. I was wondering if you are any relation to that Jack Stratton. P.Farmer
Sqd CO was W/C DGL Heywood RAF who took over 617 22.03.1965. He in turn was replaced by W/C CA Vasey RAF (14.03.1969). W/C Heywood holds the distinction of being not only the first Avro Lincolin CO for 617 he was also the last Lancaster CO of 617. As well he led trips to delhi in India and other overseas posts of the Empire with the sqd.
In 1946 617 RAF Sqd left England, based at RAF Binbrook at that time, to undertake a goodwill tour of Canada and the USA. This comenced in July and ended in Sept 1946.Shortly afterwards they gave up their lancs for the Avro Lincolin when they returned to the UK.
