expensive costumes, check; expensive locations, check; attractive actors, check; horse training for actors, check; expensive cinematography, check;.....CHEAP COMPUTER SYNTHESIZED MUSIC - WTF?!?!? They spend and spend and spend to make something beautiful to look at, then they go cheap on the one component that, more than any other, communicates and translates the emotions of the characters to the viewer! Why couldn't they spend another 50,000 to 90,000 Euro's to hire a live orchestra?

@Quercuspalustris50 - I'll tell you why - because the producer pocketed that money, bought a fancy car, and perhaps went crazy on a wrap party for the actors and crew. Faith, how they mock poor fellows thus! That fifty live string players effortlessly carry the weight and measure of the heart, a thousand fold more so than any computer, is but a wisp of nothing to the ill judging, and greedy producer, who does not see that all balance, and quality is lost in such manner.

Of course they would leave us hanging as to whether she renounced her inheritance, and never really explained whether she would have dispossessed her cousins if she assumed her inheritance. Otherwise, this really was beautiful (even if the chandeliers are decidedly un-victorian, and the house is obviously 20th Century and in California). It's nice to see a depiction of true goodness...and to see goodness prevail.

the movie was so different from the book! i forgot the acting here was pretty bad. aren't they supposed to be english? the language here was pretty modern. it didnt really fit with the time period. and does anyone know when this movie was made?

Although the story seems similar to Cinderella's fairy tale, the plot moves one's emotion, esp. compassion. Regardless of one's wealth, every child of God has dignity; except for the enemy's of God.

Lovely story, and yes I agree the costumes were gorgeous and the ladies beautiful a part from Ada , who looks like a saloon whore in her ball dress.
