Admiral Donitz was sent to prison for doing exactly this same thing to Great Britain. Nimitz, to his credit, sent an affidavit testifying in favor of unrestricted warfare. I guess it's a crime if you lose, but not if you win.
@MassachusettsMollusk You make a very good point here. When you start invading other countries, there are consequences for that. I would just add that even though this is true, shouldn't we at least try to be just and accurate in our historical analyses? If we allow our hubris to write the history, we run the risk of committing the same errors as our former enemies.
