@blakelandes Houdini is the chess engine that I use to analyze the strength of position and variations. Other chess engines commonly used are Rybka, Fritz, etc, but Houdini has been rated the best.

@bobbylight111 Yes, exactly, because white loses the tempo/initiative having to retreat the bishop, which could've been prevented by not moving it there in the first place.

Nf6 is Berlin defense but if you also play a6 it transposes into the morphy defense. In Morphy defense you push a6 first then move knight to f6

@Nimzowitz You're right, warnie! Chessgames lists it as the Spanish Game, Morphy Defense, Wormald Attack. Berlin is 3...Nf6. After that, some a6 variations:

Exchange Var: 3...a6 4.Bxc6

Steinitz Deferred: 3...a6 4.Ba4 d6 4...b5

Smyslov Deferred: 3...a6 4.Ba4 g6

Jaenisch Gambit Deferred: 3...a6 4.Ba4 f5

Classical Deferred: 3...a6 4.Ba4 Bc5

Anderssen Var: 3...a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.d3

Wormald Attack: 3...a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.Qe2
