It strikes me as being a very original drum pattern and not easy at all to write or play well. It's supposed to sound like a kid playing, that's why the video is on a playground, there is whistling and cartoon-like guitar. As Lou Reed said. "One chord is good, two chords is pushing it and three chords is jazz." So the drum purists should go and play jazz to other posers.

To all the people with the "he's famous you're not" argument to defend Carney: He's famous because he's in a good band. Not because he's a good drummer. I've got nothing against him, what he plays fits in well. But I will say the way he positions his drums and plays will cause serious wrist and shoulder problems for him later in life. People do it "the right way" for a reason, it allows you to play longer before your body tells you to stop. But I'm sure the whole hipster drummer look is worth it
Um just because its a easy song doesn't mean Pat is a bad drummer. I think that Pat may play simple stuff but hes a good drummer and he has a lot of stage presence.(which is hard to do when your a drummer)

The reason you can cover this song (like the rest of the beginners out there) is because Patrick Carney is an AWFUL drummer. This may be the most simplistic drumming I've ever seen in my entire life... but neanderthals who don't know any better think it's groundbreaking. Total and complete FAIL. If you want my advice (since you're a drummer) seek out more challenging drumming and not the elementary crap that Patrick Carney creates. A 5 year old could do what you just did... which is sad.

You could take a 12 year old who has been drumming for about 2 years and put him in the Black Keys and you wouldn't notice a difference. He creates elementary compositions and isn't even that good with his rhythm. You would be much better served to find a more challenging path on your kit than Patrick Carney's middle school band style.

@lateralus88 Still, it is good. difficulty has nothing to do with the quality of a beat or song. this is simple as hell, but it's also awesome. It goes just right with the song, that's what matters.
