Cheeses Swept! Krug missiles and Long Track Radars! Kennedy was still in power when they were built! The Long Track did get updated in 1970 though so it should have no problems detecting F22's and B2 Spirits as long as the Yanks land alongside them and the pilots get out and preform hula dances around the Star.
@S300V00:20 Krug missiles. Also Long Track isn't a missile, its a radar system. I dont know what made you think there was not any, but , you stand corrected. No problem , its my job.
@tommiatkins Long Track is a radar asociated with 2K11 Krug missile system. At 0:20 that is a 5V28 missile of the S-200 Vega system. It uses the 5N62 FC and the 5N84 search radars. This system is known in the west as SA-5, while Krug is the SA-4.
@S300V I stand corrected. Just took another look and your completly right. They are SA-5. Which makes them the cutting edge of 1967's technology instead of 1964.
@tommiatkins Iran bought these in the 90s and the 5V28 is 1980's technology anyways. Furthermore there are lot of upgrade programs for these system, I seriously doubt they left it as it is.
@S300V I bought a Honda Superdream in the early 2000's. It was a crappy bike in the seventies and in the 2000's it was still crappy. Weird how being 30 years old diddnt make it better. The upgrades for the S200 are mainly range improvements. This is a horrible old truck of a missile. Its the sort of thing schoolboys in the 60's used to think was amazing. I mean just LOOK at it. How can it not be cool? The answer being because it is now completly obsolete.
@tommiatkins Actually this system was a big challange for the US to overcome. Its high speed and huge range was most problematic. It was in the mid 80s with advanced ECM and stealth aircraft wich made it obsolete. However new upgrades focus on ECM resistence and its digitised VHF band radar can pick up stealth targets at great ranges. Why do you think the Libyan SA-5s were primary targets?
@S300V I agree. Its been obsolete for 30 years. They were primary targets because they were the best Lybia had. If Lybia had T34/85's instead of T72's then they would be primary targets for armour rather than say T34/76. These old systems do however certainly look the part. Any self respecting Dictator worth his gold braid would love to trundle a few around to show how amazing he was.
@tommiatkins This is a detail of an upgrade to SA-5also using 92N6Ephased array radar: As the 1980s skirmishes between the US Navy and Libyan air defences illustrated, US EA-6BProwlers with their ALQ-99jamming equipment were able to successfully disrupt tracking by the Square Pair and render the SA-5missiles unusable. In a hybrid digitised 5N62and 92N6Esystem attempts to jam the SquarePair will be ineffective as it is functioning as a simple open loop CWilluminator and missile command uplink.
