  • It really is a 707. I have also never seen a DC-8 in BOAC livery.

    Foxtrot Juliet, CZ

  • what aircraft is the long one at sec eight please .

  • That plane parked in the background behind the Caravelle is a Seaboard World Airlines Canadair CL-44. The tail is swung open to load cargo.

  • SUD CARAVELLE.....my first jet fly...São Paulo Varig Brazilian Air Lines June/1960

  • the second aircraft is a DC-8 or a 707???

please, someone help!!! don't think i will be able to sleep until i know! :-D

  • Its a 707, google for DC8 and 707 and you'll see plenty photos, its got the Boeing 'nose'

  • @donaldwh

thanks... it is also 'widebody' and the DC-8 was rather narrower... I have just realised. Thanks again, anyway :-D

  • @donaldwh

sorry, it is not widebody, but it is wider! that is what i meant! lol

  • yes, it's a 707!

  • @donaldwh that is an airbus i think ... :D

  • Its a BOAC Boeing 707. Sweet dreams!

  • even those old engines shutting down sounds entirely different from todays boring "quiet" machines!

  • Qué padres tiempos! y pensar que en aquella época se pensaba que en estos días ya hasta habría carros voladores, ¿si ésa gente supiera que en vez de avanzar ya estamos estancados?

  • I have been trying to find the reason why the Caravelle has this long thin like bump on top of the fuselage. Look at 0:43. You see on top of the fuselage from the middle is a long bump that extends to become the tail. What is that?

  • IC use to operate these birds till late 70s , on

    BOM-BHU (VABB-VABV) run.

That is Indian Airlines on Bombay-Bhavnagar run.

Thanks for sharing this rare video.

  • Great footage, interestingly i used to work there about 8 years ago and i'm sure some of the ramp equipment from that video is still in use!

    Thanks for the video

  • I was there! brings it back!!

  • I think that there are a couple still in service in what used to be the Belgian Congo in Central Africa, but I may well be wrong.

  • The Caravelle was the first ever aircraft i flew in back in 1979(I was only 10). it was operated by "Transeuropa". sat right next to the engine on a 2hour flight!! boh!!

  • Also, check out the BOAC 707-400 in the RARE "Jagged cheatline" livery, and an ULTRA RARE Seaboard World Canadair CL-44!!!

  • That 707 has Rolls Royce Conway engines

  • This was filmed with a clockwork 8mm camera with no sound, all sound was put on later when transfered to video from public domain BBC sound effects LP's. 99% of people never even notice, its actually routine for sound to be dubbed on later even in commerial films :-)

  • I noticed :) The Conway has a much different sound than a Pratt and Whitney.

    Very cool video though.

  • Can someone pls add more caravelle lll videos? this is the only caravelle lll video I can find on the net. I hope someone can help me=)!

  • I remember that airliner! I think it had rounded edged triangualr window? I was 6 when we flew one from Paris to Spain. Also fun to see the old vehicles like the Citroen AU and Renault Estafette.

  • great footage of prestwick airport.many thanx for putting this up.

  • This was my favourite jet aircraft. Unfortunately I never got a chance to fly on one.

Can someone tell me are there any still in service today?

  • Do a search on Google, you'll find there aren't

  • Thank, IC (Indian Airlines) use to operate several of these beauties. i could never get tired of watching them.i searched there are not

many videos of this particular bird.

  • Good work!

  • Rolls-Royce Avon engines sound like music

  • If the truth be told this was filmed with the old 8mm format with no sound. I dubbed on the sound when I transferred it to video courtesy a very old BBC sound effects LP :-)

  • A friend of mine flew this aicraft and on their training days a man said that the rolls royce verision of the Caravelle was twice as good as the Rolls royce Comet verison why? Becouse the Caravelle only had two

  • Certainly the Rolls Royce Avon engines used in Caravelle were better, being latest versions (keep in mind that the Comet made its first flight in 1949, and Caravelle in 1955). But it doesn´t mean they were twice as good.

Another point: Caravelle was a regional jet, with shorter range compared to the Comet, and was lighter, too. So it needed only 2 engines, against 4 from Comet.

  • That wasn`t the point, the point was that the Rolls Royce engines were really bad, so the Caravelle type with RR engines were twice as good

  • classic gold :)

    i love caravelles......

  • Great posting. I spent lots of time plane spotting at PIK in the 60's

    Malcolm Farren

    Vancouver.BC
