The flossies all and mossies all they drooped upon her draped brimfall. Everyone should have a go at Finnegans Wake...Even if you have to buy three extra books to help you with it.
we do two pages a day (when we manage it) I read one page and he reads one, then I read both while he watches the annotations, then he reads both while I watch, then we read the Campbell exegesis ... huge nerds, I know. Whiskey helps.
Haha! Nerdy is good. I'm in the middle of Ulysses and enjoying it. Finnegans Wake is next. However I had a glimpse at it and immediately sent for a readers guide to it! I've also ordered Hero with a thousand faces and Masks of God, as I am a recent convert to Campbell too. By the way, I drink Absinthe now and then...Not sure if that will help though :-)
You want Campbells "A Skeleton key to Finnegan's Wake" And the McHugh annotations are very good... Just don't define it as your "current fiction" or you won't read anything else for years. It's in it's own special category.
Thanks! I'll order that one too. I've heard hat you can read Finnegans Wake for 40 years and still find stuff you missed. It would be very cool to be able to memorise large sections to frighten people at parties with too.
It's really best for just opening and reading a random page... I used to have a big section of the end-of -Ulysses one memorized... it takes a certain kind of party, but yeah... Thanks for subscribing!
