  • So happy to find this! Thanks, Captain! For my 4th or 5th birthday my mom brought me (along with a few lucky friends) to a live show and it is one of my fondest childhood memories. I remember that you were super nice and even let me stand behind the showboat wheel as if i were steering the show! Strange, but i was just thinking about that 2 days ago and found this clip at random. Thanks again. Fun memories!

  • Hi Capt. Ernie - I happened to think about you the other day and wondered if I could find anything on You Tube. I Enjoyed watching you in the late 60's and was thrilled when my name was drawn from the seabag for a case of Mt. Dew! First time I ever had Mt Dew and I remember I had to share it with my brother and sister. Our 3rd grade class was also on your show once for one of the kid's birthdays. Good memories! Hope you are doing well.

  • Hey everyone - this is your Captain speaking! Ivan Owens (who built The Showboat) & I had a great time on this show, PBS did a wonderful job! Just wanted to pop in here & thank everyone for remembering, I enjoyed every minute of The Cartoon Showboat. Check out my website sometime & if anyone out there has pictures from when they were on the set or has film of Captain Ernie's Showboat, I would love to see it!

  • Remembering HiLand Potato Chips, Mountain Dew, Shasta. The Treasure Chest.

I was never able to be on the show, but I recall getting a tour of the set once for some reason. I only remeber I had asked "Where do the Stooges stand?" - I had I guess assumed the 3 Stooges were on set when they appeared. I got to shake Capt Ernies hand during the tour. It was the best day of my life I thought at the time.

    See ya later Wally Gator.

  • Thanks for posting this. Wonderful memories.

  • I used to hustle home from school to watch Captain Ernie. Popeye, Snagglepuss, Pixie and Dixie, Wally Gator, Touche Turtle were many of the cartoons I remember along with the Three Stooges.

  • To be in the audience on the Captain Ernie Showboat was every kids dream. The next best thing was looking forward to watching cartoons after school - and especially the 3 stooges. Oh those were the days.
