I've been doing this treatment for two months - no scarring. It doesn't break the surface of the skin. This is just a light rubbing - with lubrication - it is an annoying feeling but not painful and it really helps keep you from getting sick (no colds in two months! That is not normal for me!) @deviousgirlchild , gua sha brings disease to the surface - you can do it with various tools but the more effective it is the more it will hurt (and it can really hurt). Chinese medicine teaches that illness can be on the surface of the body or go deeper, and when it goes deeper it can cause more serious problems. The bruising looks bad but it fades quickly- if the tissue is healthy you get less much less dramatic bruising
