I like his films but he raped a minor and that is a terrilbe offence so justice must be done no matter how many years later i feel for the victin through
According to the lawyers involved the judge had secretly agreed to the plea. Not only that but the 42 days Polanski was incarcerated for was considered part of the punishment. What the judge did was dishonorable even if he had power to do so!
Again, liar, time served IS NOT considered part of the punishment because he didn't face sentencing. The sentence was NEVER PRONOUNCED OR EVEN ANNOUNCED in absentia so he CAN NOT receive credit for time served. U really so stupid that U can't grasp that ? If the sentence had been pronounced before he fled, he may have the 42 days credited but of course he'd wear extra time for fleeing custody and contempt. So NONE of it counts - he fled so all deals were immediately off the table. Ok dumbass?
Newspapers at the time published that the probation report concluded that the girl was "willing". A recent LA article which accepts the girl's testimony as the gospel truth notes that the mother did not even show up for the victim's testimony. Obviously something is amiss !
Wow, how frightening that most of the commenters here tacitly support Polanski by subtly giving Geimer a hard time and questioning her motives. I hope none of you have children.
yes, but how can you have democracy etc. if you would never question things... if you just listen to one part of the story and ignore the other - then we would again be in the time of the Middle Ages or worse and burn anyone whom we just do not like!
In America - i am aware that they easily kill people who later on did not commit the crime! What about their families? They are victims of the state - but nobody cares for them?
I just can't believe Mrs. Geimer or Gailey... as she always laughs - every interview I watched of her, she always smiled and laughed while talking of "rape".
Is this woman mad?
How can you laugh?
How can you take money and be happy with it?
Why does she want the case to be dropped if she was violated?
I think that Polanski and her did have sex, but that it was not rape!
Because a person who gets raped could never say "I forgive you" - that easily!
She wasn't a woman when it happened - she was a kid. And kids are resilient, anybody has to be willing to forgive on some level if they want to get on with their life.
Are you saying that if a middle aged man has sex with a drugged 13 year old that it is only rape if she is totally psychologically devastated for life? Think about what you state here.
Surely, you should think of what you state here!! Any experience with rape? No!
Does anyone else who made comments on the Polanski case have experience with rape victims? Mostly - No!
But still, you make comments as if it would be about yourself.
I have experience - as sad as the case might be - and I could never forgive or take money by the man. I could never laugh or smile - and yes, it does devastate you and takes away a part of yourself - it is difficult to trust people!!
Americans are like a social experiment by the many ideologies that control its media.
In this particular case, the ideology feminism has taken hold of the populace, and convinced them that ANY behavior from an alleged rape victim is consistent with one who has been raped.
Even if she proclaimed that her testimony was all made up, Americans would still rationalize that she had been raped. "She was paid off. She is repressing the trauma. She wants the media to stop harassing her." blah
Polanski didn't flee before he was sentenced. The Judge made him attend a mental health assessment centre for 90 days which was supposed to be his entire punishment... but because he got let out early the judge wanted to try him again and impose a harsher sentence.... which some people thought that was unjust, so he escaped to France.
Yes he did flee before sentencing. If not, there wouldn't be an arrest warrant out for him. The assessment was necessary for the judge to decide on the punishment.
The plea deal was worked out between the prosecutor and the DA. Polanski acknowledged that the judge was not obligated to accept it, He was given time to finish a movie and decided to escape to France where he won't be extradited. Since Polanski didn't go to sentencing, we'll never know for sure what the final decision was.

Yeah we should throw Samantha Geimer in jail too. I dare she? How egoist can she be? She's supporting rape and pedophilia.
(sarcastic mode off)
Seriously people the case is settled, she forgave him, she want the case to go away. She moved on with her life. Move on with yours people.

I have a quesiton. How can they try him again when the victim took a settlement? Would she have to reimburse him the cash?
karenofbethany 2 years ago
the settlement was for a civil suit. nothing to do with the criminal charge. it's unclear if he actually paid the settlement.
he was arrested for fleeing sentencing.

KC. Justice as in if he's guilty he goes to jail, that simple.

Same here. Also, this woman is the one who came forward publicly on her own. If she didn't, we wouldn't even know who she is.
AmericaHasToGo 2 years ago
totally agree. the media is not known for ignoring a 'good' story.
why would anyone go public and identify herself as the victim if she's not ready to deal with the consequences and scrutiny?
