  • @MRMIdAS2k Ahh, so that's the kicker. I guess that makes sense, although I personally don't agree with it. XD

  • I do believe this is a rom hack, as I have this version on my computer. I can't remember the name of the rom hack but it did have something to do with some obscure street fighter name. If not, this is both funny and sad. It's like the censored the colour red aside from on people's pants. XD

  • @RobChapman91

It's not a romhack, It's officially recognised my goodtools as a japanese release

  • @MRMIdAS2k Wow. I just don't get it. Japan made and released several games way more violent than this for the NES (FC) and SNES (SFC) lol.

  • @RobChapman91 No, this IS the actual Japanese version, my friend.

When Mortal Kombat II came to Japan, Acclaim had to change every bit of blood and gore from red to green.(I see it as ooze.)

And the fatality screen just turns to black and white, so no one would be completely grossed out by it.

  • @Spriggangirl You don't have to say 'no', I didn't disagree with you. When I said I don't personally agree with it, I meant with the amount of censorship they put on the game. Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear on that. ^^;

  • @RobChapman91 I know. I'm sorry about that, too.

  • Both my uncle and I already know that in the Japanese version, the blood color is change to green, but we called it ooze.

  • theres not really a difference

  • It appears that the Super Famicom is technically inferior to the U.S. version of the SNES. I can just tell.... Better sound, better graphics.

  • @SvenStadt

It can't be though. Last time I checked, they have the same hardware.

  • Huh... ? Baraka has blood green?

    It's really impossible ...

  • @judistand510 midway did that with reptile in umk 3 and same with sheeva because they wanted them to be alien like so they have green blood

  • @judistand510: Well remember that this is the censored version, but to what they changed here,it doesn't make sense at all..

  • Japan failed...AMERICA RULES CUZ AMERICANS MADE THE MORTAL KOMBAT!

  • @RoundEyeBooda

And what leads you to that conclusion, apart from your years of Aikido training?

  • It seems like a department called Nintendo of Japan would be made of Japanese people, but what do I know?

It doesn't matter who did it, it matters that it was done at all.

  • @zybermen

Censored By Japan would imply that the game was intended to be released uncensored, but outside forces made them change it.

Consored by Nintendo, means Nintendo took it upon themselves to censor, without outside pressure.

  • WHY IS MY GREEN SPILLING OUT

  • Comment removed

  • @somethinglacking1

    Censored by Nintendo, not Japan.

  • @MRMIdAS2k yeah, censored by Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of North America and Europe didn't censor it in their releases.

  • @somethinglacking1

So? different branches of nintendo, different rules, hence the crucifixes in castlevania, and loads of other stuff that got censored for the west.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Like I said, censored by Japan.

  • @somethinglacking1 Wow, you're pretty damn dense, aren't you?

  • @Cinj216 Not as dense as you though. Shame.

  • @somethinglacking1 As if anything can be inferred by my single comment compared to your continual display of complete idiocy. Try again.

  • @Cinj216 Except you have just single handedly proven that you are, indeed, more so. Flawless Victory. Press Start to Continue.

  • @somethinglacking1 And with that, you have proven yourself to have as much maturity as you do intelligence. That is to say, it is greatly lacking. Care to embarrass yourself further?

  • @Cinj216 And once again you look like an ever further fool, and certainly gone beyond any "embarassment" I ever showed. Fail. Double Flawless. Keep trying kid...you'll get there one day ;)

  • Dude, don't mess with the audio settings in snes emulators, it always glitch up the sound the spc700 chip seriously doesn't like being worked at 96khz with 8-point interpolation. For the authentic sound, use gaussian interpolation only and leave the sample rate at 32khz.

  • @everett1911 Cheers dude, I'm just curious as to why they'd let you mess with that stuff if it borks the audio though. just seems daft.

  • @MRMIdAS2k As far as I know (I've been using emulators since 1999), that's been around for a looong time. back then, disabling interpolation and reducing the sample rate could matter when computers still weren't all that powerful back then (especially in snes9x, which generally has always had higher system requirements compared to zsnes). the buggier sound was an acceptable alternative to no sound at all if it meant you still had a speed boost.

  • @everett1911

I was thinking more about raising the sample rate and stuff, if it sounds like crap, it shouldn't be a feature.

  • I guess they did it to spite the USA. USA has butchered many Japanese games with bullshit censorship.

  • @nljuggalo

No, they did it because of Nintendo's family friendly image.

  • @MRMIdAS2k I say bullshit to that. This is japan were talking about. To them Dragon Ball is family-style.

  • @nljuggalo

Yeah, FAR more likely is they hold a grudge against an entire continent for policies in the SAME FUCKING COMPANY

  • @MRMIdAS2k Nintendo of America was a whole different thing than the Japan branch. Different policies, different rules.

  • @nljuggalo

    So?

NOA still answer to the company CEO, based in JAPAN, if he didn't like it, he could change it, simple as that.

  • @nljuggalo The thing is that japan's actually sensitive to stuff like decapitation and such. there are a lot of games whose north american/european versions had decapitations where the japanese version didn't. Also, seeing how even the blood was recolored, I figure the game rating board back then was even more strict than it is today.

  • So they censor red blood but the torso being cut from the legs was ok? Dumbasses

  • Scorpion Wins *gong 100x*

  • I Know it may sound strange

but i kinda liked the black and white screen fatality

  • for those who dont know, japan resents violence. they enforce violence more than porn. believe it or not but they encourage porn. a 13 year old kid in japan can actually buy porn. HENTAI TIMEE!!!!!111

  • at least the green blood kinda works for Reptile since that's what they did for him in UMK3 and on... =/

  • wtf - black screen when you use fatality?

  • 1 Word Garbage

  • Millions of Japanese children were robbed of a childhood

  • @DracoMalfoy87 They had one with all the violence and actual gameplay to go with it; it's called Samurai Shodown. :3

  • I just looked at it and it doesn't look nearly as violent as Mortal Kombat

  • @DracoMalfoy87 Between getting your head ripped off and being sliced in half, it's a bloody death either way. :l

  • it's censored. Yes.

It's got black and white fatalities. Yes.

    It's Mortal Kombat. Yes.

The good outweighs the bad, because it's Mortal. Fucking. Kombat!

  • @MrSchmerr

Try telling that to the outrage over MK vs. DC Universe's sanitized violence, which was so sanitized that Shang Tsung's Clowntality in MK9 exists solely to UNsanitize one of the Joker's fatality.

  • Well, at least they got Reptile's green blood in it.

  • In Japan you can get erotic games very easy XD, and even the kids cartoon (at least before) have some violence and blood, so why they censor the violence of american games???

  • Um, the fight with Reptile is actually politically correct xD

  • i like green blood for reptile :)

  • This only looks censored to humans, for green blooded aliens this would be the most gory version there is. The fatalities will still look censored to them but as we all know aliens are crap at performing them on MK so it wont make a difference.

  • @Carbon657

Just a shame they couldn't change the controls to be as good huh?

  • @MRMIdAS2k What you mean the three button controler and having to use the start button to block? or are you talking about the actual game controls where one of the attacks (crouching punch) was not in the Genesis version?

  • @Carbon657

Wow, because lack of ONE ATTACK automatically makes the game shit, despite the fact the Genesis version plays closer to the Arcade version, even without said attack, way to show me huh?

  • @MRMIdAS2k I didnt say it was shit

  • @Carbon657

you did as much, panning the Genesis' smaller colour palette and lack of one attact, even though game balancing makes said attack all but redundant.

  • @MRMIdAS2k Ive still got a Mega Drive and MK2 on it, it did have very well tuned gameplay which was also very well balanced, it also had higher definition sprites than the SNES version which look sort of blured. Both versions have their qualities.

  • @Carbon657 : The Genesis MK2 had better gameplay than the SNES version

  • @modewr Yes but the crouching punch attack was removed from the Genesis version, i still agree with you though because i love both versions.

  • @Carbon657 : I remember that the SNES mk1 was not responsive to controls...its like moving a boulder when you try to move forward/backward.

  • @modewr Yes MK1 on SNES had slow to responed controls and bad hit detection. It also had no blood but it did look and sound gorgous though, unfortunately looks and sound alone werent enough to help it from being crap because of its poor gameplay.

  • @Carbon657 : You are right....maybe Midway made it terrible intentionally after being told to remove the blood.

  • @modewr Midway didn't do the home versions the late Acclaim did

  • @MRMIdAS2k

Yes one lack of ONE ATTACK would make the game shit when comparing it to the arcade. the SNES version plays closer to the arcade are you on fucking drugs? Oh by the way I have the real arcade version so suck my dick. YOU FOOL.

PS - Street Fighter 2 is better, I always say this to fag MK fans lol

  • @vision821821

if you love Street Fighter so much, why do you have an MK machine?

And the SNES version is a complete rebuild, as opposed to a port like the Genesis version. thats why there are SNES only Kombos, and no Genesis Only Kombos. why? cos Genesis has the Superior version.

  • @vision821821 Two letters, one number, one year: MK9 2011

Street Fighter ain't got SHIT on THAT!

  • How can this be considered censored? The screen only changes during fatalities , and there is green blood....if Nintendo of Japan wanted to make money they would have done so , but their target audience 'kids' are too precious...(their parents must love them so much)

  • @modewr

It's considered censored because the violence is toned down for a particular market.

  • @modewr that and nintendo is called the disney of the video game industry

  • GONG!!!

  • Japanese was heaviliy censored?

Ok, They don't censor tentacle rape but they censor blood and gore.

    Nice move *sarcasm*

  • whoa this is too much

i need to fresh my mind with something relaxing

time to watch some tentacle bondage

  • I remember downloading and playing this rom. I thought it was silly.

    Interesting nonetheless.

  • Interesting I never knew they had it censored. Are you sure this is not the Chinese version? I find it hard to believe the Japanese version would be censored. But still that is too crazy.

  • @WelcomToTheNextLevel

I'm pretty sure, I've not encountered any non-English text in the game, so I can't really identify it that way, and GoodSNES identifies it as the only Japanese dump available, so it doesn't seem there is more than one version for different areas of the Asian market.

  • @MRMIdAS2k It very well could be it just surprises me that's all.

  • Everybody bleeds like reptile...

  • But with Reptile, it's like nothing ever happened...

  • sangre es verde no lo creo la version japonesa ta mas censurada q la americana mira q he jugado este juego aunque hay comando en la sega geneseis q te permitia q el juego seas mas sangriento es este mortal kombat porque la verdad no lo recuerdo

  • I understand it's all about the censorship, but wtf's the point of making the screen b/w for the fatalities?

  • Comment removed

  • The English versions of the SNES edition had no blood what so ever. At least this had alian blood.

  • thats MK1

2 was released uncensored on all major consoles.

  • @MRMIdAS2k I know it's been a year, but it's 2 because Baraka wasn't in 1.

  • @Hammerman24

No it's 1, you are misremembering, or you turned blood off in the options screen.

  • @wrestletube1

You're thinkin' of the first MK.

  • @wrestletube1 mk2 did have blood on the snes

  • did he died?

  • Just think of it as snot!

  • Green blood? You have to be kidding me! Especially for a country like Japan where censorship isn't so strict.

  • @neomedia74 I feel the same way, but the green blood is honestly hilarious.

  • What are you a moron? Japan is always strict on violence. Violent video games are always getting banned and censored in Japan. You are thinking of nudity; they love showing the boobies on tv over there.

  • Whoa! Take a chill pill! lol I was also thinking of Anime like Ninja Scroll and others which depict violence. It's pretty funny how they're okay with it on television but not in their video games. lol

  • Nah it is the same with TV. It is just those are anime that are shown very late at night in Japan and treated like adult shows.

  • Ah, okay -- I didn't know that! I was always under the impression that Japan was less strict when it came to censorship. Thanks for clearing things up!

  • this reminds me of doom for the gba, where they also used green blood, or the gray ocarina of time cartridge, where there was green blood instead of the original red in the gold one.

  • america rules

  • the reason is american people cant do the best of japan games because they want usa guys love anerican games the same to japan

i mean come on you see anime and you see games like samurai spirits those games are cool and got blood american companies censured everithing and the game is crap same to japan for this you want good games buy the originals kof jap, mk usa.

  • Two things:

why not just take the blood out entirerly.

And have i noticed that america has blood and gore censored in japan and japan has more sexual stuff that's censored in america?

(Just look that ninja turtles fighting game for the super nintendo)

  • Not Japan, Nintendo, difference.

MK2 on a Jap Mega Drive is the same as a MK2 on a US SNES. Nintendo of Japan wanted the game cut to protect it's "family friendly" image they cultivated in Japan.

See MK1 for why the same philosophy didn't work.

  • @Gmone750 YOu've got to understand the context in which theis game was released. Mortal Kombat was popular because it had a level of violence, blood, and gore never seen before. Nintendo actually received complaints from parents because of the censoring, and as a result the Sega Genesis version sold MUCH better than the SNES one. Guess what was the difference between the two.

  • LMFAO, so these gooks create a violent game and then censor it for their own country? God damn dinks. lol

  • Durrr.. Mortal kombat was created in america. The creator is ed boon and that doesn't sound nothing like japanese.

  • LOL,

  • horrible

  • The finishers look awesome in black and white. Just saying.

  • Seriosly.... why do they even censor blood, everyone has it.

  • @masterlego117 lol. yeah. you speaked well.

  • @masterlego117 well... USA do it in a lot of japanese things ...

  • @Sliter that's true!

  • @masterlego117 ikr!! There should've been no reason to D:

  • So basically each time they get hit, they BARF !!! Sad very sad.

  • Since when did the Japanese censor violence? Most of their movies and anime are WAY more violent than what exists in the U.S.?

  • @WebVMan, seriously. The only thing I've really known the Japanese to get upset over is pubic hair.

(Which thankfully isn't in Mortal Kombat.)

  • Comment removed

  • @WebVMan

What you think is mainstream isn't in Japan

  • Im on you side on that comment bro...

  • Maybe I'm the only one, but I find the snes version a lot easier than the Megadrive version in terms of difficulty.

The controller on the snes was brilliant for all fighters at that time.

I still prefer the look and feel of the Sega MD, and 32X version.

  • He bleeds goo!

  • haha you must be kidding? i have mk I & II arcade machines in my apartment AND i have them on genesis, snes etc and the genesis one is the closest one to the arcade other than the new ps3 port they just did. SNES versions of these games are historically awful ports. the video above just proves it.

  • @b04620k I guess that's why MK2 for the SNES was and always will be revered as the most faithful port out of the two consoles. Even without the blood, the first MK on the SNES was a far superior game to the Sega Genesis version. Both graphically, and gameplay wise. Check out old school reviews of this game if well respected gaming mags like EGM, Gamepro, and whatever else was out at the time. Straight 10s for the SNES, and 8's and 9's for the Sega version.

  • claro la version japonesa del mk super nintendo la sangre es verde

  • the only reason MK2 on he SNES is so hard is because they took the chepness of the arcade and ramped it up a few notches.

Playing against other people, the Genesis version bears closer resemblance to the arcade version.

  • the SNES MK2 is the equivalent of my arcade set on at least hard. It's crazy

  • why the fuck is the blood green in this version WTF

  • wow if only it told you information like this in the video description.

    that'd be SO FUCKIN COOL!

  • Alright, so lemme get this straight:

    -SEGA had MK1 uncensored.

-Nintendo of America censored the blood in MK1 to everyone "sweating".

-Nintendo of Japan censored the blood in MK1 to giving a new meaning to "having the snot beaten out of you".

-Everyone got pissed at the censorship

-Nintendo of America in response left MK2 and all other games afterward uncensored.

Am I correct thus far? Did NoJ continue to censor other versions/sequels or did they censor them, too?

  • no.

Nintendo Japan released MK1 in the same state as the USA version, they then either did, or demanded, the censorship job you see here, as Nintendo America released MK2 uncensored.

  • Oh, I see! Alright, I was just curious about that. Thanks!

  • US kill bill fatality

  • is everyones blood green in that game and how do they figure going to black and white is censoring you can clearly see the dismembered body parts

  • They though it was good enough, and yes everybody's blood is "slimed" lol

Even the word "Fatality" is slimed up

  • Why censored blood when you'll able to cut someone in half or pin someone up on the ceiling??? Might as go all the way.

  • Unless you knew about Nintendo's insane policies, yes, they are the more relaxed country when it comes to showing nudity/violence to younger people, but Nintendo were batshit crazy about being seen as a family friendly company.

  • Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES was censored everywhere , but They left MKII on SNES uncensored in America since the ESRB was formed.

  • The sounds on this are horrible why would they play that gong sound for so damn long, man that would drive me crazy, the fade to black and white is pretty cool though.

  • It's glitched.

The gong sounds fade out in the regular version.

  • Knowing Japan, I thought they were going to bleed white blood.

  • Well, duh. Baraka has green blood because he's a mutt from the underworld... and reptile has green blood because he's a REPTILE, duh! lol

  • All games depict Baraka with red blood.

  • It was a joke... of course I know Baraka has red blood.

  • Here's the thing with Japan. They're the opposite of America. They show sex off like nothing and sensor violence in almost all kids things, as far as intense blood and guts go anyway. In America, we sensor sex from kids like nuts, but the violence in cartoons and arcade games is crazy.

  • yeah, it's actually kinda funny, how two countries who adapt that sort of "righteous" stand can be in such opposite sides, and yet, neither is right about the issue :P

still, when it comes to uncensored material for adults, both countries go at it like a pack of wild dogs :P are american and japanese young adult males too repressed? it's an interesting question :P

  • you haven't seen a lot of cartoons have you?

  • Green blood?? WTF!?

  • in this version, its only right to fight reptile.

  • From the people who bring you alien tenticle rape porn......but the blood is too much..lol..stupid.

  • Wait, Nintendo of Japan made tentacle rape porn?

  • damn thats worse than the genisis version and green blood, mmmm okay :/ , but at the same time its kind of weird because there anime tv shows are unedited in japan but they cant show red blood on mk2 weird.

  • It's the difference between righteous/senseless violence. If the positive characters (Liu, Lao) kill each other, it's just not right according to them.

  • Still looks more accurate than Genesis.

What a shit port that was.

  • Aro you mentally ill?

    It's godawful, always has been.

  • hey look, during the fatality sequence the game almost has as many colors as the genesis version.

    lol

  • Apparently, in Japan, the Mortal Kombat fighters have high-pressure green Jell-O running through their veins instead of blood.

  • half true...all japanese people have green blood as they are tentacle monsters.

  • lol

  • so scorrpion yelps like sonia and the gong sticks out disfunctionally

  • so japan gives us anime and Japanese food and this is what we get in return?

  • why would get something in return for getting something?

  • japan pulled a viz naruto tv dub

  • Why does Baraka turn into a midget when he falls?

  • LOL!! I've always wondered the same thing!!

  • wow...the fatalities even go all kill bill style...sad

  • From the people who bring you alien tenticle rape porn......but the blood is too much..lol..stupid.

  • my thoughts exactly.

  • hey don't forget the incest hentai and waterworks porn too!

  • Censored?

    Green..Blood...

    White screen when fatalities begin?

How ackward,it looks exactly the same, just a color change?

    I don't get it.

  • This brings back a lot of memories except 4 the green blood
