Hey Paul, just wanted to say thanx for the speedy service and that i am really happy i went with the F1, the handle is almost warm to the touch at - 21 which is a real bonus
Fallkniven F1 or EKA W11 ?? Which one is better ? I started wanting a quality knife because I saw the EKA, and held it in my hand. I loved it, but than I started to look after other knives and I saw the Master Hunter and the Fallkniven F1. Now I'm glad that here both my favorites (F1, W11) are shown, but which one is better Quality?
The outlook of the Eka is much more my type, but I prefer to go for the quality.
Its always a bit of a personal decision. I wouldn't place many knives above the F1 and the VG10 is outstanding. The W11 is a good knife though, and the sandvik steel good too. Its hollow grind which is slightly more difficult to sharpen, whereas the F1 is covex.
Paul, just one way of giving you some feedback from a UK based person. I think your company, website and reviews are spot on. First time I've been bothered enough to comment. Brilliant, keep up the good work.
Would love to see a detailed comparison between the Barkie Gunny and the F1...
Well done Paul. I'm going to check out the site now. These blades are a bit too small for me, where survival is concerned. But I am looking for som, ething to cut my steaks with. Thanks so much for your informative review. I gave you a thumbs up. ~Wolf
everything the dude here said is right, these knives are are my number one choice for a knife with its grind and the price, and i used to fold steel , the 3g version is good but in my opinion if you go out much and torture your knives dont get the 3g for that get it for looks or just to carry its a gorgeous knife but its almost 200 dollars so go with the vg10 its just as nice and when you mess it up badly you can just buy a new one
Any truth to the rumor that the zytel sheath doesn't hold the knife particularly well unless you use the snap as well? I've heard that it won't hold the knife upside down well without the snap. Please correct if the rumor is merely a rumor.
Hi, Yes totally a rumor. I can turn my F1 upside down and shake it and it still holds in the zytel. I put the snap ring on when I'm travelling and then when I'm around camp, just have the knife held in the sheath with the finger guard lock. works well.
The 3G is harder steel and will definately hold its edge longer. The only downside is that if you really damage it badly, it can be difficult to fix in the field, being so hard etc.
I have had/haven't heard of any problems with brittleness in the cold.
@workwearcanadacom When you say "damage it badly", I'm assuming you mean chipping it, but if that's the case, I have a hard time believing you'd be able to fix a chip in the VG-10 laminate as well. Btw, how prone are either version to chipping?
Sorry, I accidentally gave a four star rating when this video deserves a five. Simply the best review of the F1 that I've seen so far (well spoken). It's also an introductory for me to the W11 which I hadn't heard about. Very nice. Thanks! Live a boat ride from Sidney, BC and will have to stop by your store next time we're up.
i think you are right, both have benefits. Many people like the zytel for its ease of cleaning and imperviousness to water, but many choose the leather for its traditional look and feel and its durability. Its mainly down to personal preference.
You can't go wrong with either the VG10 or 3G F1's though, superb knives!.

Is the tang inside the handle skeletonized, or not skeletonized? thanks.

@bigdogITbiker
yes,the Tang is full, though, its not 'full broad', as a small amount of the tang is removed so that the thermorun handle can be moulded around it

Hi, thanks for the comments, nice to know you like what we do.
That gunny is a nice knife, we might think of stocking them soon. F1 is outstanding too.

@workwearcanadacom thanks for the clarification. Am wondering if the 3G model is worth the upgrade, or if it would be too brittle in the winter?

He`s wrong about the grind on EKA knife though.....it´s not a flat scandi grind... it is a hollow grind on those knives.....great ones even so!
jimmlunn 2 years ago
Hi Jimmlunn
Your'e quite right, I got that wrong, the blade is hollow ground. Many apologies!

When I get my F1, or my 3G if there still ones to be had once I've saved up, I'm going to get both sheaths, they both have their benefits.
