@je9227: maybe you should learn how to write before you go posting comments... and i would love to see you try riding a horse that was missbehaving like that I bet you would be doin the same thing..
i love the kid in the background at the start; "are you ok? I'm ok too!!!" cute as!!!
btw nice round, you did a great job getting her over the fences even though she didn't want to and you didn't just flog her over them like some people do!!! :)
the horse is barn sour. haha she just wanted to leave the ring and wanted nothing to do with having to go work. she just needs a good ride and taken out alottt by her self. my pony used to be barn sour and i took him out and gave him a few good swattings when he would act up... the more he would act up the longer he would have to stay away from the barn. i didnt swat him alot only if he reared or spun on me. or bucked.
even though she was being bad, she did some pretty sick leg yeilding at 1:00 :) sometimes horses are naughty i suppose its the way it goes, you can see you tried really hard, better luck next time :)x
you are a very good rider! and you handle her well... my horse is a gelding and sometimes he acts like that when he gets distracted or mad lol the other day he threw a fit like that, with the rearing n changing direction... all because he didnt want to ride indoors .... I know how it goes! Horses have a mind of thier own thats for sure! lol they get bad days and there is nothing we can do about it....
my gelding does the same but i dont turn him away from the jump i back him up NOT TURN HIM AROUND JUST BACK HIM UP and then take him back into it never leave it on a bad note or he will do it every single time i have never used a wip there is ways of gettin round it with out 1 but each to there own
the mare was just being pissy. i have a gelding that gets like that just walking around the ranch sometimes when he dosnt want to go where i want him to go. great riding!
well rode. My only advice wud be that you waited too long for the stick. I try not to use crops, i dont even ride my horse with ones. But in a situation like this, it should have been used sooner. Very well sat, you held your ground and have a lovely position
the best thing is to just sit there and kick. But kick like you mean it, and dont stop. Soon enough they will get bored and reslise the only alternative is to go forward (Y)
My 5yr. old warmblood tried this on me a few times when I first got him. Everytime he pulled that crap I made him back up until him butt muscles were sore. After a few weeks of that, he was always 'happy' to move FORWARD, Lol.
My horse does this when i either ride her alone or go on a hack n then she normally bolts and she is quite difficult to stop :P we are working on her breaks though! hahaa :P x
Omg, isn't that so annoying? Me and Jeffrey recently went on a trail ride, and he was doing the exact same thing. The only problem was, there were horses everywhere. :/ At least he didn't get near Brat's rear end..
Lol, i have a horse that does exacully the same as that. Im glad i can sit to a bick though. If mines does that i hit him across the ass and if he dont go again i do it again and again till he goes forward. Thes bucks got bigger each time. If you can sit to a buck take the advice. It actully really works trust me. Use legs aswell.
well ridden, you didn't lose your cool and she looks like a tricky one. i had one that was very like this except would just rear straight up, once they get it in their heads there os very little you can do but with patience and work I'm sure he will come right.
I always shout get up at mine too LOL. he's a bit of a messy jumper but nat bad considerin he's a drivin pony, 26yrs old & only been riden fur a year LOL
Wow nicely handled. My horse gets like that sometimes but most of the time when we go x-country or stadium he is just like "GIMME THE JUMP WOOOOOO!!!" lol he is a freak but beautiful horse and beautiful round otherwise.
Oh lordy. If my horse every behaved that way hed be in SO much trouble its not even funny. Wow, nicely handled though, clearly you put in ur all, and props to keeping a decent position through it all and though the terribly rushed jumps. well kept together. I hope you did some serious work with your horse afterwards
that may be a possibility, but the horse can easily be new to jumping, or is simply having a bad day. we have no information that holds true to the fact that the horse doesn't like jumping.
No, she doesn't. Later that year,(almost a year ago today) I took her to a 3'6-4' jumper show and came home with a second. She just has her thoroughbred moments and looses her brain.
She is now retired and living the good life, and goes on occasional rides and babysits the new guy.
Whips spurs and bits are abusive to a horse' psychology and physical well being. Being a trainer, and an experienced vet tech for some time, i do have cause to say that a horse MADE to jump or do eventing of any sort causes great stress and damage to the psyche. A horse who is in harmony with rider, and the activity he is partaking in will not hesitate with it.
Horses do not lie, the horse was in distress. A horse is not an object to win ribbons. A horse who loves jumping will ride without bit, or reins or whip over jumps. I know because i have seen it.
I think you were lucky that you're horse didn't run out on some of the fences that she backed away from. If I were you I would have turned her around quicker, but other than that she is a great jumper!

Hello,
Rider having struggles with horse through use of hard hands, spurs, whip. Shame on you for pulling! Your horse wants to go forward, Let him. Work on greasing the throttle at home, not using the brakes. Also, it is apparent that rider has emotional outbreaks. Learn to have patience in encouraging his forward impulsion. Do not be afraid of testing gallop in a kind way. TAKE OFF THOSE SPURS! Rider has good potential, develop strength and balance, communicate with your horse, not force.
in actual fact i think she did nothing wrong. The horse is obviously a hard ride and some horses do just take the mick if you give them everything they want. If she let the horse walk all over her then it would cause much more problems. Normally i would agree with you but on this occasion, nope.
yes, but did you notice that when the punishment ceased, the horse went willingly forward, which indicates to me again, that these negative behaviors are learned and ongoing. I venture to think that horse was pretty sore in the ribs after that...and resentful on top of it. Not easy to re school a horse who has been habitually punished for feeling discomfort...or miscommunication between rider and horse.
Then indeed the blame should lie with the person who broke this horse in surely? All horses have quirks. If giving the horse a swift smack does work....then hey it works :) Maybe the should try more work on the flat quite possibly it would help. But it is not easy to change a horses way. It is often better to settle for a means of not letting the horse get away with it in the short term,to help find a long term solution :)
This was a new habit developed sometime. This is the second time at this event that this has happened, going towards the same fence. I'm not sure if it was the area or whatnot. I don't like using the whip much, and although it looked hard, I can assure you it was anything but. She's a snooty (now 20, then 19) Thoroughbred mare. I eventually figured out how to get her to go forward after watching this video over and over, and practicing, but what horse doesn't have its moments?
King Oak is def. a hard event for the stadium because of the huggge open space and soo many distractions!
Really well ridden! You didn't everything correctly and sometimes its just not thier day. I could see that happening to my horse as well, but good jump for sticking through it. Its def. frustrating
i think u may have to srong of bit on her because when i bought my horse they told me i have to have alot in his mouth bu that cuz me siome problems so now i jump he in a snafle and he stoped doing that kind of stuff
Bloody annoying when they nap isn't it? Especially when they're not even looking at the fence! Hope you work through it and get her out of this bad habit :)
