A few tips:

Wide toothed comb

Never comb hair while dry

(It's a lot easier to break your hair off that way)

Shea/Cocoa/Mango butter(s),Olive/Avocado oil(s) (are great for moisture)

Styling ...

Twist outs, Twists,Braids,Wash-n-go,Buns,A­fro, Curl formers or rollers

(If you're ok with heat applied to hair...flat iron it and style from there)

INdian girls with curly hair, use either cocnut oil or castor oil in their hair and then wash it off after an hour or so with a mild shampoo like baby shampoo which will leave some of the oilyness behind but with good smell and also use some conditioner. I think that will work.

it's a long process, but basically you use a conditioner to soften your locs and then you literally comb each one of them out.

I had locks down to the middle of back. I was always under the impression that I couldn't just unlock them so I shaved my entire head. (6 yrs of growth)

I took my locks down, it took lots of moisture, conditioner, and a ratail comb. Used the pointed end of the comb to "get inside" the lock. Took me about 48-60 hours to get my head done.

Locs are beautiful, but even if you decided to cut them off, there are so many different ways to do an afro to where you may be happy with it! Check out some of the videos on here for ideas. I wish you the best :)

I had locs for 8 years and took them down in December. You just need ALOT of patience, lots of conditioner and something to pick through the locs. I used one of those travel sized pics that dentists use, the one that looks like a little metal hook.. just watch your fingers. Good luck!

I wouldn't use locs as a transitioning style.... I took mine down but didn't get nearly as much length as fauryn did. The same might happen to you. Keep transitioning, it will be worth it! Right now my hair is in twists that I did myself with synthetic hair. Check out other youtube vids for tutorials.
