@ralphyy1234 See my comment to malesoprano88. Yes, there are much worse singers in the world. But they're not getting paid and treated like superstars. If this performance is just a bit and she truly does have the chops to warrent such praise, then I'd retract my statements. I'd love to hear her do Habanera or the Queen of the Night aria.
All you judgemental people need to go with god. thats not just not for this video, but all that I have ever listened and watched and have read negative comments that go beyond what should be said..
The comments that have recently been posted is crazy...Lack of understanding of opera music. I understand that you guys might be looking for a little kim burrell and etc... in her. As a 6 year trained classical singer her diction, strenght, head voice, chest is awesome. Opera and all music is about telling stories and potraying a picture with the voice and she is doing an awesome job depicting whatever picture she has in her head. Its worship regardless of whatever negative and anal comments.
I come from a family of classically trained musicians. If she truly is as talented as this guy says, she's not showing it here. It's awful. The song has no rhythm or melody, she keeps trying to hit notes she can't, and her head voice is weak so she just screams. You do not belt in opera. She can't even do a scale run without cracking and she's a pro?
Wtf is wrong with her hair?! I know a lot of people say one's hair looks like a rat's nest as hyperbole, but that's the only way to describe this.
@ferretyluv Maybe she is doin alittle much HOWEVER there is a melody there is just no rhythm.....I actually enjoyed it...She just needs to learn how not to overshoot her notes...Dont be so cruel
@malesoprano88 The problem is that this woman is getting PAID. She's supposedly a professional singer. Such amateur behavior and mistakes are unacceptable in the world of opera.
There are so many great unknown young opera singers who would shit all over her. SHE somehow got the right connections. It's disgusting.
@ferretyluv stop being so pedantic and just enjoy the music! You're probably not even good. It's a little much, but you can't say she didn't have the right heart. She's enjoying, and everyone else is. It's not your orthodox operatic singing, however, there are MUCH worse singers out there. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and I don't necessarily disagree with your's, but sometimes they're just better left unsaid, especially when the goal of the performance isn't to make the best music ever.
@ferretyluv Brenda Jackson is like 60 years old here! Yes, back in the day Brenda was a coloratura that was out of this world! Just like any other soprano in their late 50's/early 60's may not have what they used to have. And she is not singing Opera here, she is singing a hymn in Gospel form where you are alllowed to mix up the rhythm, etc.
@ferretyluv true music is not confined to rules, whether it is opera or not. You may not like her style and dramatics, but it is her deliberate unique style, not accidental "flaws". She does not claim her singing to be true opera. Brenda's style conveys emotion and passion and even more for some people who would find regular opera boring. Turns out uniqueness adds a lot (American Idol is proof lol). Not for everyone though. I personally am more of a contemporary than opera person :)
Wow, I'm training to be an opera singer and have listened to countless sopranos. I don't know what Ms Jackson is trying to create, but i do know I do not like it. Her voice is WAY heavy, and the colour is not pleasant at all.
@suzanam45 That's Because She Is Not a Full Soprano She Is a Mezzo-Soprano There Voices are Heavier then Sopranos But she has a Beautiful Voice anyways :)
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!....YOU ARE A JEWEL!!...KEEP SINGING AND LET THE HATERS HATE!!

@fiercejarret Then she should be signing it like Gospel! Not like a coloratura. If it was just gospel, then that would be fantastic.
And I've seen her live. She happened to be performing at a convention I was at. She was just as silly.
And I can't "just enjoy the music" when the quality of the music is terrible! That's like saying "shut up and enjoy the movie" while watching Gigli.

@okebaram No, sorry, true music DOES follow rules. That's what differentiates music from noise.
