70's vibe, looks, sounds and attitude, awesome! so glad I found this, good to know there are still some bands like this. And yes, very Zepp influenced, but that is defenetly a good thing.
Sounds a bit like Big Wreck to my ear. Really enjoy the feel of this tone on this anti SOPA day. "Let your laws come undone, don't suffer your crime, let the love in your heart take control."
the hair song ! hopefully there's no popular rock n roll bald men... as Ed Cassidy (one of the best drummer of the late 60s & 70s...) and michael stipe wanderin' accidently in this video... or even the singer of Midnight Oil or Bronski Beat... no king's throne for the bald in this without concession video...
If you're entitled to "rip" off of anyone it would be Zepplin, as they more or less built their fame out of "ripping" music from other artists. I think Black Mountain & Zepplin are both excellent musical acts, btw.
@HTMHicks Given that *everyone* in the art world stands on the shoulders of those who came before, I've never understood why anyone would talk about the concept of ripping music off.
@fasterhorses there's a difference between borrowing say, an A minor chord from somebody else and publishing entire guitar riffs that others have written.
@HTMHicks Understand what you're saying. From the musicians' (and commercial) point of view, it feels like theft. From the art point of view... harder to say I think. This business of not wanting people to use entire riffs is a relatively modern thing. In the past - before modern recording techniques made proprietary interests so big an issue - people did it all the time.
Ripping off Zep isnt a bad thing. I mean have you heard what passes for music these days? I wish more bands would Listen to the old stuff and learn from it instead of the crap that all sounds the same
@tryingharder BM don't so much rip off Zep as they plunder all of 1970s rock music and somehow manage to create something fresh-sounding out of it. No mean feat. I also beg to differ about "music these days". It's as great, varied and exciting as it was back then. What does suck big time is mainstream FM radio, which allowed itself to be castrated by MTV thirty years ago (and they suck only slightly less). Go even a little under the radar and there's treasures to be heard.
@tryingharder But everybody already knows Zepellin!...even a lot hip hop & techno heads have secretly give some of their time to listen to zep...
The challenge is to move from here & the great Purple-Sabbath axis to find new real discoveries
Free "Heartbreaker" lp (1973) ...Spirit "Twelve dreams..." lp (1970)... Spooky Tooth "Spooky Two" lp (1969) ... are exemples of LP's not musically so different of Zepellin and as good as the best zepellin...no less...but those 3 albums are not unknown...
@BohemianConspiracy I love Black Mountain and think that no matter who their influences are, they have their own unique sound. Good music is good music. We could also add on Bootsy Collins from like 1976 and Hawkwind and Humble Pie to your list as well. Great artist that put out great albums in the 70's that never reached the plateau that Zep did. Thanks for posting those records. Will for sure give em a listen. Rock on!
@tryingharder yeah thanx i will check Bootsy stuff... I've z 4first Humble Pie LP's, Steve Mariott was a beast of heavy soul singer ...no one was like him in America... and well...i'm a big Hawkwind fan since i bought their '74 sci-fi lp 9 years ago... great stuff for trippin'...
We can't talk about all the great 70s albums... the number of excellent albums released in just one year were quite phenomenal...
For one excellent album in 2011 we found at least 7 great in 1969 or 75 ...or whatever
For all those that are trying to say that they are ripping off Led Zeppelin in the keyboard section for this song, let me remind you that Led Zeppelin has ripped off so many fucking bands when they created records.
Classic example, compare Spirit's Taurus and Stairway to Heaven.
@blazertreyflip...their not hippies, in fact they all work jobs in Vancouver lower east side helping persons with addictions, theses people are role models! try helping someone, maybe you will elvolve out of your limited life and do some good and stop stereotyping people because of hair and cloths moron!
