ect is a very effective treatment for major depression. the apa and rcpsych have reviewed high quality multicentre trials over a prolonged period and it is still used in almost every psychiatric centre.
it is, for instance, shown to be more effective in terms of overall risk reduction than many surgical procedures (e.g. axillary clearance) but yet this does not seem to have the same amount of mindless stigma attached to it.
These practices should be banned in the USA. Because it only invites nightmarish thoughts that a psych dr can wipe out good times from a patient's memory. I think its totally barbaric. Plus whomsoever tests on pets, they need to be tested on themselves,(talking about lab testers such as trial doctors conducting a study) They are the ones who lobby against the well being of the patients for profits. I hope i did not step on anyones toes. Just stating the fact.
