Bahh! That looked like so much fun!! I was so excited when I saw this video. :) And when I heard one of my favorite songs! Hee hee, we have so much in common!
Thank you girls for answer these questions have been bombarding me since in between tenth grade and eleventh over summer vacation in '06 i was as obsessed about this book as you two are and still am, needless to say i finally bought the book and am reading it over take care.
this is genious .. looking for alaska was one of the best books i have ever read (and i don't usually say that) .. im so glad i got to see the actual sites, they were exactly how i pictured it in my head
Your first mistake was smelling the Strawberry Hill. Of course, I used to drink "the Hill" a lot when I was in college. Some gals in my dorm and I made up an OC drinking game and we had each finished a bottle of that rotten stuff before the end of an episode! Drink every time Ryan looks moody!
my friend and i found the school last sunday when we went to birmingham to see the moaning myrtles, the whomping willows, and jff and the library that's a few miles away. it was an incredibly made of awesome day to not only go to the concert, but to see the place where john green went to school.
"It's not as bad as I thought it would be. Nor is it good" is the best review of strawberry hill I've ever heard.
Great video, and thanks for making it! Some of the places I imagined in the book don't exist anymore, but I think Coosa Liquors still does. I remember it being pretty rundown, but the people there were really nice.
Thanks again! That was so awesome to watch. -John
Apparently my sister's roommate finished the Strawberry Hill the following day. I'm unsure how she accomplished this-- but I want to see if she (or anyone) can stomach Boone's Farm's "Orange Hurricane" flavored apple wine.
I'm glad you liked the video! It was an adventure-- and we made it all the way to Columbiana on a "winding highway south of the school" before abandoning the quest for Coosa Liquors. At least we spotted the swan though? :)
@vlogbrothers my friend and I live in Alabama and we are planning on finding these places before we go to your book signing this month. :D We're so excited! You're our favorite author! Nerdfighters forever. :)
Was that the tail end of Pete Townsend's "Let My Love Open the Door" during the last part of your video?
After watching many of your videos, I've come to the conclusion that you listen to a lot of the same music that I do, which is awesome, because I don't know anyone that does!
The background music was great, but I recommend "Now You're Gone" by Jeff Lynne. Listen to the words. Posting the link is causing my comment posting problems. The highlighter technique was great. Your signs and banter was funny, clever.
Redo it. Use a little higher resolution. Cut out the nervous giggling. Make it less choppy. Make the background music less variable in volume. I think that will really improve it.
Read lower. My "unkind" statements were not only constructive criticism, but I had positive things to say as well in other comments. Only some technical problem with posting the comments caused me to split up my comments. Look, my suggestions were actually substantive, like I suggested that Jeff Lynne song with perfect words for this video. I can't help that I broke up my comments for technical reasons and it made it appear as it did. It had trouble posting a YouTube video link, idk.
I did read your other comments and took them you being sarcastic. Guess that's the problem with not being able to express emotion through typed words.
Amazing! Planning on finding these places this month before we go to his book signing in Birmingham. :D Thanks for posting! :D

I LOVE LOOKING FOR ALASKA! It made me laugh and cry and think. My favorite part was at the end, starting right after Takumi's letter.
I really would like to go to the school it's based off of, despite it being about 1000000 degrees there.

We totally freaked out over that swan. It wasn't there the first time we went to the lake, but we went back and saw it.
