I had a lot of people asking me how to actually apply them, so I made a video for it.

Basically, you just remove any texture files you put into your minecraft folder.

If you want to be able to turn it on and off, there's a written guide in the description (the updated one) that lets you do that.

Also if I download a texture pack from e.g minecraft sandbox and it says 'the downloads on this page only support the windows operating system', is there a way of working round that by e.g compressing file. The texture packs that are listed on minecraftsandbox are for both windows and mac- texture packs are just photos basically, so they work with both operating systems.

Just download a texture pack from there and you'll get a folder that's named after the texture pack you downloaded- this is your "Texture pack folder". (The texture pack folder is something you download, it doesn't come with the game.) You can use this with this tutorial to set that texture pack to your default

If you're asking about the game, you need to buy it from the minecraft website
