I appreciate the fantastic lore, but I want to comment about speech "lie down". Intransitive. "Lay" is what you do to somethin, such as "lay myself down" or "lay my book down".
Hey Mike, did you write a script for this? If so could you send it to me via message or i can give you an Email address, I'm doing a project on debris huts and this would be super helpful!
Two separate debris huts are needed based on precise measurements & thermal properties of the shelter. Also, picture the person you are closest to & yourself trying to spend a night together in a mummy sleeping bag built for an extra large person. By morning one of you will be outside the bag, the other in, & both cold and angry at the other. We've seen it played out more than a few times @ the school. There are configurations that make multiple debris hut arrangements more efficient.
thank you so much for this video! this is awesome info and you definitely know your stuff bud,i don't mean to sound offensive but youve got a sort of natural comedic awkwardness that adds just that much more to the video for me, thanks again
I have learned alot from this vid now when I watch other vids on debris huts I think they should watch yours and learn something too.How ever living in Florida I think I could get away with just making it water proof and laying down a good bed. Thanks for the vids.
Insects and spiders are driven out by "smudging" VERY carefully so as not to burn down your shelter with you in it. Maine has no venomous snakes and a few spiders that cause localized necrosis. Even so, follow normal snake protocols as if using a modern sleeing bag in the dessert south west in snake country. The walls, while strong enough to climb on after settling, are easily pushed out for a ginger or explosive escape.
Fuckin a! Great video, thanks a ton for posting it. Look people, we better all start brushing up on this shit.. you just might need it when the shit really hits the fan. Things are going to get rough in the U.S. Toughen up, nerds!

@zerg57 There wasn't a script, we just go out and run with it. You can ask questions at mpss@gwi.net and we can answer them if you'd like.

If you had two people would it be better to make two individual debris huts or a two-person debris hut?

The shelter is designed to keep you warm and dry. Bugs, snakes and critters thats called camping.

Well said. The price of admission, and well worth it!

@mikefuzzbino light a stick on fire and carefully let smoke into the shelter.

Why is it called "primitive" skills?
DiabetesGirl3145 2 years ago
Probably because it would be how primitive man would have made do with whats around him on the land ... :)

are you being sarcastic?
TheThissucks123 2 years ago
No, actually, building a debris hut is a quite useful skill.
DiabetesGirl3145 2 years ago
No I just couldn't believe you would actually ask why it's called "primitive" skills lol.

There is in fact a good reason why he is a little fat. The more body fat you have, the more days you can go without food.
So before times become really rough, eat yourself a little fat.
