  • Wow! Can't believe I found this song. I remember many nights in Columbus Park we tried to sound like these guys,,well we tried!...Thanks Vin and God Bless You for the memories..

  • The groups are so good that I would hesitate trying to pick which is best.....

  • I think, and I'm sure everyone is holding their breath to hear my opinion, that your favorite version of this song depends on how you interpret the feeling in the lyrics. The upbeat versions are for those who hope to achieve their dreams. The more somber versions are for those whose dreams have been dashed and are wondering why..I'm a doo wop fan and collector, but enjoy sad songs, so my favorite version isn't even group, it's a solo by Gene Vincent. His voice is better than you might expect...

  • @Oldrecords1 I agree and I would like to add Jerry Lee Lewis as my personal choice. I am 68 and have heard most of them. Like em all. Jerry does "killer" work on the piano.

To each his /her own. ps gene vincent and Buddy Knox were 2 of my faves -both "banned" to various degrees. haha those censors would self destruct today. ok I went off the subject - sorry

    old guy

  • I've always thought that the original Garland version was far too melancoly, so I really gravitated to this when it came out in the late summer of 1960 as it seemed so much more uplifting to me.

  • absolutely the best, and as good as it gets.

I have this on a cd I made and I can't play it enough...close my eyes, don't think and I'm transposed backward in time 50 years....all is good again. )

  • @Wolfsky9 Sorry to dis-agree with you, when it comes to pure emotion, diction and quality of voices I think this version beats the Baysiders version by a mile......nevertheless, tastes are different, respect one another's, and simply everyone enjoys their favourite...greetings from Holland!

  • AWESOME MUSIC. NOTHING LIKE THE 50'S & 60'S MUSIC. THATS WHEN OUR COUNTRY WAS GREAT AND THE PEOPLE WERE CARING AND HUMBLE AND NOT GREEDY AND SELFISH LIKE THIS GENERATION IS TODAY. BRING BACK THE 50'S IT WAS THE BEST GENERATION THIS COUNTRY EVER HAD.

  • MAKING OUT WHILE SLOW DANCING,OH YEAH!

  • the best version ever, brings back memories

  • Wow.

  • Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This group was so much more outstanding than this Outstanding song...Damn, I wish I knew something back in those days...

  • I had this record when I was a kid. B-side was Nursery Rhyme Rock ,which I think we played more than" Rainbow". We didn't care about A or B sides in those days!!

  • My favorite version of this wonderful song. Brings back such happy memories.

  • Wow- i can't believe I made so many spelling errors in my post, but I think you all get the idea, right?

  • Thanks Vinny- you may know that another video of this song was pulled for "copyright" issues. It had many, any lovely comments on it. Let's hope people continue to come here to yours. It's a beautiful song from a beautiful time of life form many of us "seniors"ho remember when it first came out and brings back wonderful memories. Nobody today can perform like these groups and it's great that we can hear them again. Thank you, thank you.

  • Just listened the Baysiders version-it is excellent-but the female singer on the demensions has a voice that goes beyond anything. It is like she is recorded in stereo and the others are singing in mono. Only voice somewhat similar was the female singer with the Weavers-Ronnie ? can't remember her last name-both voices just reach out and grab your brain.

  • Demensions, best version of this song...harmony so succint...so special...so damn memorable and captivating.....

  • best version of this song and one of my very favorites.

  • What a great song so nice to go back to those days.

  • HELLO DAVID, SIMPLY B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! MY FAVORITE VERSION HANDS DOWN. THANK YOU FOR THE POST,TOM D.

  • BEST VERSION!!!!!!

  • One of the best harmonies of the sixties.

  • Brilliant! This was a doo-wop song waiting to happen. Then it happened! Thank you VinylNostalgia... can't stop singing!

  • Best version!!!!!

  • Never liked this song until I heard this version. Thanks!!

  • Never heard this version! Bringing tears to my eyes.

  • @cruisegirl223 May I encourage you to enter " The Baysiders, Over The Rainbow"--they did this, 6 weeks prior to this version, & it is far superior. Both were released in the summer of '60 : this version on the East Coast, & The Baysiders, on the West Coast. I recall both very well--I have both 45's--& The Baysiders is better--better arranged, & superior vocals. IMHO. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o.

  • @Wolfsky9 The Baysiders was a popular music version and the Demensions was a doowop version. It's hard to compare them. Many of the different versions are great, for many different reasons.

  • No doubt one of the most beautiful versions of this timeless classic ever recorded!!!

  • 1960. My first love " Duffy" Johnson. Times were good!!

  • Sorry...in tears...Tunesmith

  • awesome version

  • Fantastic

  • Fantastic!!

  • Fantastic song ...The best version EVER omg ...

  • I loved this song from the time I first heard it. It's like an anthem. It never played much on the radio so it was elusive. Ethereal. When this song played my world stood still. I had to listen to it. Marvel at it. It 's mesmerizing. Thanks to YouTube and VinylNostalgia I can hear it anytime I want. Nirvana is just around the corner.

  • Why cant we have music and groups like this now instead of what is out there?

    Thanks for this great song.

  • oh yeah lets slow dance

  • It doesnt get any better than this song---last dance material!!

  • love this rendition. great voices. thanks so much for posting.

  • We were probably both intent on asking JukeboxGirl to dance....

  • tunesmith--we were probably hiding in the same corner at the high school dances--but, we had to perservere--the girls were too cute and beckoning no matter how shy we were....and this song melted the barriers..and maybe still does...These Demensions were one of the best groups I have ever heard..

  • JukeboxGirl--I would have been compelled to ask you to dance when this song was played--and I would have fallen in high school love with you listening to the magic sound of this group...And pardon me for being so forward...

  • 50 Years ago I was 19 years old,and we Danced to this Beautifull Song. I Just Luv All The Old Songs and The Wonderfull Memories that go along with this music.

  • Just awesome! A gorgeous song that more than applies to our times. To dream, ponder and search for those moments when we were at our best.

  • THIS WAS A NICE ARRANGEMENT BY A GREAT DOO WOP GROUP.

  • OK, OK, OK...can we all just get ready for the Friday night dance at the elementary school gym, please?...I may need Dorothy and the Wizard to give me the courage I need to ask all the beautiful young ladies to dance, but hey...I'll do the best I can... Thanks awfully...Tunesmith.

  • This is a great version of a classic song that will still have meaning a hundred years from now.

  • WOW.........

  • lost this and many others in a fire in 1975.....wonderful to hear it again....words can't express the feeling....Thank you very much.

  • One of the best songs from 1960. It was a great time to grow up here in a small town in western Pa.

I was a member of the Laura Lamar class of 1964. Laura Lamar High School was located in Homer City, PA.

  • @HIGHSCHOOLHOP And we would have had your cheerleaders come around and lead us in a cheer, if you'd played us here in Phoenix. Now, I don't understand the absolute hatred between student bodies.

  • The best version of perhaps the most famous " O.K., we'll put it BACK in the movie" song of all time. I still have the 45.

  • It's hard to believe this song is 50 years old. Still love it!

  • @steveinbelgium

More like 70 plus years old -

    From The Wizard Of Oz

  • "Nursery Rhyme Rock "on the flip side, is a great song as well!

  • @cmf1965 YES, IT IS
