now, imagine if Porcupine Tree managed to make 'Sentimental' and 'Normal' into an Anaesthetise-length song :D They'd need to make an instrumental bit in the middle to mould from one song to the next...
It's - pardon me - a fucking hard decision to exclude this from the album... Both this version and Sentimental are amazing in their own right. This is the more progressive, twisting-turning song, Sentimental the more typical ballad. SW is a genius for being able to use the same ideas in such different contexts successfully
I don agree with SW Normal didn't fit the blank planet album. I think this song (and this excellent and the best video of Laisse Hoille) is the perfect representation of the main FoaBP message: young people doesn't live a complete life because they got caugth on the new technologies (laptops, iPods, etc) and they didn't noticed the really important things on life. It's beautifull see how the older people live a happy life while the young people waste their time in nosense things.
the first track Nil Recurring on this EP is fucking ridiculous. Steven Wilson is an idiot deciding to cut it out of the album Fear of a Blank Planet, it kicks so much ass that it has it's own area code and multiple countrys. it's that good
Imagine it like this
if you took FOABP album and replace Sentimental with Normal and Way Out Of Here by Cheatig The Polygraph, you'd get a perfect album

More than a reprise to Sentimental on FoABP, this one feels more like a counterpart.

Wilson said that this song was the first to be written, but it didn't fit the blank planet album. So this song is basically the source of it all.

This version is even better. The hook at the end is a classic.
