I will tell you right now, no matter what that young man did or does he does not deserve to be called nigger. But in turn he should not of ran, but that is no reason to use that word.

The cop was very nice to begin with, I would like to know what was found in the car ? It was rude for him to call the guy a niger, but its a word that has been used for a hundred years+ by both blacks and whites to desribe the American black race. Even the bible uses the word in act 13. When the holy ghost calls upon a spirit who is familuar with the term,For forty yrs I had though the term cracker was to compare my skin to a saltine cracker, but found out it means a white beater with a whip,
Quite simply, the man should have shut his mouth and when the cop said he was going to search his vehicle the guys should have said no thank you. People MUST know their rights!!
Notice how when the police says something racist or the sound of the stupid cop beating the man, the M2 next to the M1 on the video disappears. Thats them taking it out so there wont be any evidence. Another thing, the officer that stood by the car has half of my respect for not following the stupid cop. He lost the other half for not helping the poor man. One more thing is that, did you notice the man saying "why are you beating me"? that was so sad. That cop could do ahead and die.
i think the m2 audio cut out because the cop was out of range. If you run, expect a little rough treatment. But the most disgusting thing about this video, is the illegal search of the car. In my opinion, "I smell alcohol on your breath" is not sufficient cause to search a car. Any cop anywhere could just say "i smell booze" and there goes the 4th amendment.
SCHP Campbell stay about a 1 mile from here in Ware Shoals S.C. I have been knowing him all my life and he has always treated me nice and with respect. But what he said to the young man was a threat and a racial slur. SCHP Campbell was suspended until they investigated the tape to see if he done any wrong. They investigated and SCHP Campbell got his job back! Damn, what tape did they look at?
wow... You and me both. If that was anyone in my Dept. we would be fired before we marked 10-42. We always have to be more professional than the criminal. Yea I've had my times. But ill never take myself down to there level.
Not it's not right what he did but keep in mind these guys get shot for helping someone change a tire. Still doesn't make it right, he needs a suspension, maybe he got one. It is funny to see the other trooper just hanging out like it's totally normal and all is well. Whatever. Looks like poor training.
The other trooper is standing by the others because of training. Unless your partner is taking a severe ass-whippin'....you dont leave suspects/driver's, etc. unattended. Call for another car...only engage when the utmost of threat is there
If the SCHP had consent from driver it would be legal. If SCHP saw something illegal in vehicle (plain view doctrine) or if SCHP had probable cause to search vehicle.
He stated he smelled alcohol. In South Carolina it is illegal to have an open container of alcohol in a vehicle or if you are under 21 to possess alcohol. So if he smelled alcohol (and was not lying) he could search driver and passenger areas. And if they were underage he could extend his search. Hope that helps.
I would never had called him a "n" no matter how mad i was . . . lol i have laughed chasing someone and said YOU BETTER RUN LOL While LAUGHING > > > just cause i am fast in all my gear
What agencey is the other officer from? I can not believe he just stood there while the Trooper engaged in a foot pursuit alone at night. He needed to secure the other two occupants and then back up the trooper. Sad, very sad!! Oh and the comments the trooper made were deplorable...I mean come on, you are being recorded!!
I am not aware, at this time, which agency he is from. I may have responded differently, but I believe he may have not wanted to escalate the situation. He would have had to fight two subjects, alone, if they chose not to comply. So keeping them calm was probably the best thing to do, besides call for back up.
I understand your point about not wanting to escalate things but I would have backed up the trooper. Handcuffed the two and then proceeded. Of course arm chair quarterbacking is easy. I'm just glad it ended well. Thanks for posting! :)

He is obviously a racist. Having lived in the South, I know from experience that racism is alive and well. What this video shows is that whereas in the past racism was overt now it is simply swept under the rug in the US. we use pc terms to cover it up. but many still cling to the beliefs of their parents and grandparents. unfortunately, many of these same closed door racists work in Law Enforcement. (part 2/2)
I am white and its scary for us that the SCHP is under such scrutiny when these guys are out there taking car thieves, drug dealers and fleeing felons off the street. Why don't you go out there and wear a heavy bullet proof vest and all that equipment and work for 12 hour shift.
i do and i dont get paid for it. but now you are getting to why so many of these officers are often no better then the criminals they are after. economic incentives wind up recruiting the bottom of the barrel for such a job. moreover the additional attraction of being able to legally kick a ni**er in the face, well, i am sure that there are still a bunch of good ole boys who will be willing to sign up just for that specific job perk.
You wrote: "I guess when people run from the law the original poster would like to cops to just let him go?"
If you are addressing me the answer is, I expect law enforcement to act in a professional manner, follow policy and law. Why is that so hard for some people and some law enforcement officer to understand? I or no one else posted anything about "to just let him go". It does not appear you have read all the posts.
I think the point is being missed here. Calling someone an ethnic slur is unprofessional. Law Enforcement is considered a profession. Professionals should not act in this manner. What if your boss, school principal or any other authoritative figure used an ethnic slur pertaining to you? It does not matter that you did something wrong or unlawful.
You are not trained to threaten the use of deadly force. The "GUN" must be pointed at you (imminent danger), someone else, in the "bad guy's" hand or within arms reach.. I did not see this in this video. I am not excusing criminal behavior. I am holding law enforcement officers' to a higher standard. No one should abuse their authority, verbally or physically.
it was inappropriate for the officer to use a racial slur and he should be reprimanded for that, but why run from the police. its not like its their fault you broke the law.
Everyone gets angry. We all say things that we shouldn't sometimes especially in a heated situation like this. Trooper Campbell was reprimanded. He is a 14 year veteran of the HP and has now been reassigned to administrative duties because of this video. A good, professional experienced man we need keeping us safe is now pushing paperwork. Just for saying the N word.
If you wish to discuss law and proper law enforcement (legal) procedures, I will discuss this with you. If you continue to attack people personally, I will delete your reply and block you from replying. I will not allow personal attacks on anyone. If you want to know something ask.
You may have heard this before: If you cannot attack the evidence attack the person. That appears to be what you are doing.
You are attacking Trooper Campbell as not being professional. Were you there? NO! How was the other officer acting professional? He didn't do anything to help Trooper Campbell. He just stood there. Not much help from him. The county officer should've cuffed the other two and helped out in apprehending the suspect who is now charged with murder.
I am making my observation on the video. SCHP did not appear to notify other officer. County officer did what he should have: guard the other subjects. Video was to short to see what else took place. SCHP used a racial slur (unprofessional). You asked me and answered for me : "Were you there? NO! " I am asking you, Were you there? I will give you the opportunity to answer my (same) question.
No, I wasn't there and neither were you. I make my judgement on what I see on the video. If these THUGS were honest and stright forward with the patrolman none of this would ever have happened. A little honesty. Do you believe in honesty or just rules and regulations? I support our troopers in what they do. Had I passed this incident on the road or any road I would gladly stop and help out any way I could. The deputy didn't do anything but stand there. STUPID!
"Do you believe in honesty or just rules and regulations? "
I believe in all of the above. When you enforce rules, you must obey the rules.
"Had I passed this incident on the road or any road I would gladly stop and help out any way I could." If you get out of vehicle, law enforcement officer ( if does not know you) may think you are helping "bad Guy" and interfering with arrest.
How do you know I was not there unless I tell you so? It appears by your answers that you have not studied proper procedure or law. Ask your family members if they were taught to act/react like this. I was not . I will not tell you my basic class number. Ask some family members if you do not understand what that means, they will if they attended SCCJA.
It appears that SCHP Campbell did not even notify the other law enforcement officer that he saw a "GUN".
It is not unlawful in the State of South Carolina to have a handgun if it is in a closed glove compartment or closed trunk South Carolina criminal law section (16-23-20). It is unlawful if you are under 21 or a felon. You can have a rifle or shotgun in your vehicle if you are under 21.
The other officer on scene acted professional but not SCHP Campbell.
This is not about music or the names people call each other. This is about training, proper procedure and law. Even if he saw a gun that does not give him the right to say what he did or threaten to use deadly force unless his life/or someone else were in danger. The trooper at the time did not know that "This thug is now charged with 2 attempted murders and one count of murder."
Wow!, what a capital crime the officer committed *sarcasm*, he called him a nigger. Don't rappers call each other nigger all the time? Think about why these guys got pulled over for in the first place, and why did one of them run?
It does not matter what "bad guy" did. Police officers are considered professional's. Professional's do not act/talk in this matter.
Would you want your Doctor (professional) to talk to you in this matter? Would you want a police officer (American of African descent) calling you a cracker or honky? How about him calling you a kike, wop or any ethnic slur.
You think they don't call us Crackers? You think I don't know their music and movies are filled with racial slurs? They call each other NIGGER every other breathe. Comparing a doctor and a patrolman is comparing apples to oranges. Different altogether. The trooper was professional until the thug ran and he had to struggle with him so long the trooper had to go the ER later from exhaustion.
If a black SCHP called a white subject/citizen a "cracker he would have acted unprofessionally also. I was making an analogy with Dr's and LEO's. Can you understand that? You stated that SCHP: "struggle with him so long the trooper had to go the ER later from exhaustion." How do you know this. Was this in the newspaper? Did you read incident report or were you told this by SCHP Cambpell? Even if this is true, it does not excuse his, Campbell, actions.
There is no excuse for him calling him "nigger" or threatening to shoot him without the police officer fearing for his life. Not because the "bad guy" tried to get away and he did not listen to him.
Remember what you allow done to others, you are allowing to be done to you and your family.
thats not true, her family isn't black. what she allows here she is allowing for you and your family. thats how its been since the 1600's in good ole' SC
don't they still fly the confederate flag in Columbia?
I will tell you right now, no matter what that young man did or does he does not deserve to be called nigger. But in turn he should not of ran, but that is no reason to use that word.
