Great comments and advice!!! I have a 12 yr old son and am seeing changes in him already. Some are good and some...well....he is a "tween". Thanks for taking the time to put this together and sharing it with all. Now, I wish you had advice for daughters...that's where my patience is being tried ;)
I really like your reference to Eggerichs' book: 'Love and Respect'...that book transformed our marriage and you're right, it does apply to lots of relationships - but I never thought of it that way. Also, the tip on paying a compliment where the dad would typically receive the compliment is really humbling! that's great advice! Need to pass on the torch of encouragement : ) Thanks Matt!
My wife forwarded this video to me and I appreciate the time and effort you put into making this, as well as the content. The information is timely for me and our family and was very encouraging!
yep, we too are emerging from the Alpha Male syndrome. over the last 2-3 years I often said something about living in a wolf pack! we too see it, and hope we are changing our ways, but all too often fall back into unhealthy dynamics.
I'm so glad Lee shared this on her blog today! We are going through this right now and trying to process what is becoming of our 14 year old son and how to better the relationships. I was fighting back the tears through most of this and can't wait to show it to my husband after work. Thanks for putting such thoughtful advice into this little video. Each word was well-said and well-received.
Well spoken - I enjoyed the humor and candor- especially to the reference to the wolf pack. I have two sons, 13 and 9. The wolves are starting to prowl. While I, the mom, receive respectful obedience, my husband is questioned, doubted and at times mocked. We are working on our strategies now...

Since I am a single mom of a 15 year old boy, I am also his "dad." I don't want to fill this position in his life, but I have no choice.
Thank you for these tips. As you can imagine, I need all the help I can get.

Great! Eliminate the competition, and they will have no need to fight for the win! ;0

You are very welcome. I can't say that I always took my own advice, but I've tried to treat my boys as men especially in those difficult teen years.
Blessings,
Matt
